Ten years ago critics expressed their doubt when fashion journalist Natalie Massenet set up Net a Porter in a tiny Chelsea artist's studio, and how wrong could they have been. Since it's launch in 1990, the site now employs almost 600 people between its London and New York bases, with a whopping turnover of £120 million.
The site has been so successful that as they celebrate their tenth birthday, the company has plans to open a brother site - to be aptly named Mr Porter - for the fashionable male, or the current Net a Porter consumer wishing to purchase for her other half. “We look forward to welcoming a new group of super stylish men who join us to shop for themselves” the company explained. We wonder whether the critics who ate their words with doubts for Net a Porter will have a little more faith in Mr Porter. Happy birthday to our favourite luxury online shop!
