After H&M announced that they are collaborating with Anna Dello Russo on a jewellery collection, naturally everyone's attention switched too who the next big designer collaborator will be. Tom Ford's name was thrown in the hat by Business Week back in November but it looks like Maison Martin Margiela is their next big partnership.
This morning WWD reported that the high street retailer is about to confirm that they are teaming up with the brand on a one-off holiday collaboration. When I reached out to the UK press team today they refrained to comment on the rumours but considering the buzz around the reports, it looks likely that the collection will go ahead.
Is it a surprise? Well, yes. Margiela is known for creating innovative avant garde pieces so it will be interesting to see how this aesthetic is married with H&M's concern for mass appeal. Something tells me that this isn't the last shock partnership that we'll see in future. Their Marni collection was a surprise too, especially since the designs are more niche than H&M's past partnerships but clearly that was the start of things to come.
Are you excited about the news?
