Talent obviously runs in the genes of the de la Renta family, as last September America's First Lady, Michelle Obama herself chose to wear a Moises de la Renta piece, despite not having worn anything by his father to date. It was while Moises was using his father's showroom that one of his designs had been thought suitable for the President's wife - "I had gotten in contact with a woman named Ikram, and she had liked some of the pieces" he explained at the Museo del Barrio gala on Thursday. Little did he know who he had been talent spotted for.

"It was very funny" Moises continued, "[Ikram] was like 'I have a very special friend I'd like to show this to.' And you know, I didn't know, obviously, it was the First Lady, and I get a phone call maybe a week and a half, two weeks later, 'Hey, could you make this for so-and-so?'" he reminisces. "I was speechless; I was like 'Oh my God, that's your special friend?'" Falling just in time to coincide with the launch of Moises first full collection, luck is obviously on the young designer's side with a swarm of publicity from the debut, "It helped my business greatly, and it's something that I'm very grateful for."
