The Met Ball Costume Institute Gala could not have passed without some drama or another could it?
Despite planning to dress seven models for Monday's event including Naomi Campbell and Stephanie Seymour, designer Azzedine Alaia was not invited to the event nor were his designs included in the exhibition. Campbell, who has a close relationship to the designer after living with him in Paris at the beginning of her career, decided to reject her invitation to the ball out of solidarity to the designer she refers to as "Papa". Speaking to The Cut, Campbell's spokesperson explained that, "[S]he feels she doesn’t want to attend unless she can represent his work."
Stephanie Seymour, whom he was supposed to be dressing for the occassion, also decided to reject her invite for the event after Alaia informed her of the situation.
But who is to blame? Alaia's camp is blaming Anna Wintour for the issue. "She has too much power over this museum," Alaïa tells The New York Times. However, exhibit curator Harold Koda 'asserts that Anna has no involvement in curating the shows. He said he did not include Alaïa's work because he figured the designer wouldn't agree to be part of a group show'.
Let's see how this one will unfold. I have a feeling it's going to get ugly.
