Wills India Fashion Week in Pictures

J.J. Valaya

It's Wills India Fashion Week, which overlapped with Delhi Fashion Week, which prepares for Lakme Fashion Week, beginning Friday in Mumbai. Excitement for fashion is huge in India, where designers seem ready to prove that they can compete on a global scale.

Currently, many of India's designers are satisfied to take their (large) profits domestically. Just a handful of main designers, such as Manish Arora, show their collections outside the country.

The unrestrained brightness remains, but some think that what's happening in these cities could be a new fashion revolution, like the one that put some of Japan's heavy hitters on the map. "Not everybody was an Issey Miyake or a Yohji Yamamoto, of course," Himanshu Verma, an arts organiser, told the New York Times - just like not all designers are Arora, collaborating with Reebok and showing in Paris. "The interest is here, though."
