Model and actress Lily Cole rocked a nude sheath dress to this week's AFI Fest screening of her latest film, 'The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus'. Cole stars as Valentina in Heath Ledger's last movie.
As for fashion, how did the screen star look on the red carpet?
Picture Anna Wintour calmly saying, "Yes, we can - yes, I can" every morning as she looks at herself in the mirror. We like to think of her using Barack Obama's campaign catchphrase on a daily basis, now that she's nabbed a spot on a presidential committee.
Wintour and 26 other private citizens were instaled Monday on the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities, which focuses on "arts and humanities education, cultural diplomacy, economic revitalization through the arts and humanities and special events dedicated to recognizing excellence in these areas." Michelle Obama is honourary committee chair, and others including Sarah Jessica Parker, Kerry Washington, Forest Whitaker and Teresa Heinz Kerry also took committee spots.
And before you get your magazine-reading panties in a bunch, we'd like to point out that Wintour isn't leaving Vogue or moving to Washington. Although if she did, we can bet she'd have something to say about the "fashion" on Capitol Hill.
Whilst promoting Givenchy's new lower-priced capsule collection in Barney's last week, Riccardo Tisci proved to be as endearing as ever, explaining that he wanted to "come here [to Barneys] to meet the clients, the women who end up wearing my clothes, to talk with them and really connect with them, but this is my only public appearance this week". The collection - which is lower-priced by 40 percent - revolves around Tisci's signature white shirts and studded garments, and though it might be lower-priced, when asked if he would consider a collaboration with a high street giant, Tisci replied "It's too early. I'm still building the brand, and we want to stay on image."
The designer also hinted at details of a new secret project, which involved him designing costumes for a show to be performed in 2011 - a "combination of music and opera, [it] will travel worldwide. A project like this has been my dream." Although he couldn't say much more about the new project, Tisci did reveal a model that he loves, and has yet to work with. "The girls I cast are the girls who when I was a student made me dream. Adriana Lima, Frankie Rayder, Ana Claudia Michels . . . The one who hasn't worked out yet is Kate Moss, but I hope to work with her in the future". Another lady that Riccardo would love to work with is Ciara, after dressing her for her Fashion Rocks Rio performance last week, "Yes, she is a muse. I had never met her before, but it was one of the most amazing moments of my life. We really clicked; I can respect her as an artist and a woman and she respects me as an artist and as a man. I look forward to working with her again soon." So it looks like there is a lot in store for both Riccardo and Givenchy in the near future. In the mean time, we're off to Barney's to bag ourselves some Givenchy goodies...
Stella's oh-so adorable collection for GapKids and BabyGap launces nationwide today. With its soft pastelle pallette and playful military inspired boys gear, she's tempting those of us without kids to consider it... if only childrenswear were this fashionable in our day.
Steven Meisel is an American photographer most noted for his work for Vogue US and Italia, having shot every cover of Italia since 1988. Other famous collaborations include Madonna’s album covers for ‘Like a Virgin’ and her greatest hits album GHV2, as well as shooting her for the Louis Vuitton Spring 2009 campaign. More recently he has shot fall 09 campaigns for Mulberry, Prada and Balenciaga to name a few. His images often draw upon current cultural events, art and film and have occasionally caused controversy. One such editorial was featured in Vogue Italia September 2006, which examined restricted liberties in post 9/11 America. The shoot (top left) featured models posing as terrorists, and police snipers. However despite this he is admired as being one of the most influential and forward thinking photographers of today, with models desperate to appear in his masterpieces.
You'll be forgiven for mistaking German born, London based designers Daniela and Annette Felder for models. Before setting their roots as designers, the identical twins went travelling around Europe using modelling to fund their exploration. After graduating from Central Saint Martins, having interned for the likes of Robert Cary-Williams and milliner Stephen Jones, the duo made a splash on the British Fashion circuit securing a nomination at the British Fashion Awards and a legion of celebrity fans including Estelle and Gwyneth Paltrow.
This week we caught up with the design duo to talk about to talk about inspiring women and their love of Iggy Pop.
