What Pheobe Philo is doing for Celine is so beautiful. It’s all about the most expensive fabric in the world, the most beautiful tailoring, the biggest bank accounts and the most beautiful bodies.

Yohji Yamamoto Hosts A Fashion Show For 3,200

It's been a bumpy road for Yohji Yamamoto. He went bankrupt, then had to get bailed out by a private-equity fund. Now he's back. He came home to Japan for a fashion show on Thursday night - and let a crowd of 3,200 watch his show in the stadium used for the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo. His runway lineup included plenty of Japanese celebrities, plus Yamamoto's design team and models.

"This is a kind of compensation for my absence from Japan," Yamamoto told WWD. "I'm sorry I was absent for 20 years." He also had a message about fast fashion, which has long held his disapproval: "I don't think it's a threat. I would say, 'Let it go. Go to hell.'"

Rock & Republic Has Filed For Bankruptcy

Image via Style.com

When Rock & Republic cancelled its Fall '10 runway show and severely pared down distribution of its makeup range, signs didn't look great. And just this week, the brand announced that it's filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Daily operations are expected to continue, with a new focus on shoes and core apparel.

The brand's fashion-week shows were always of the expensive variety (and once included an orchestra pit), which might seem over-the-top for a brand primarily about jeans. But, maybe when your jeans cost more than $200 apiece, you might think show-goers expect that sort of thing. We'll see how the tightening of the purse strings affects the brand.
