Yesterday, International flame-haired supermodel Lily Cole launched Gatwick Runway Models, a search for the next female and male supermodels to join Storm Model agency's exclusive clientele. In an attempt to recreate Sarah Doukas' formidable brush with a young Kate Moss at JFK Airport, both Cole and Storm are hoping to recreate this magical moment at London's very own, Gatwick airport.
Amongst the prizes are a contract with Storm, a chance to rock the runway at Gatwick's very own Fashion Week running from the 5th until the 8th August and all whilst under the watchful eye of Lily Cole herself. The event also has a charitable cause as Gatwick airport have promised to donate £1 for every entry they receive.
Sarah Doukas, founder of Storm model agency said "This is a very exciting opportunity for Storm and we are very devoted to the discovery of new talent which this competition brings, it has everyone in the office excited! We are hoping to find the new faces of the future who will go on to enjoy a long and successful career with us."
Life is sweet for Garance Doré. When she's not shooting for ELLE UK, she's being flown all over the world by different brands and last year saw her collaborate with Gap and it looks like life isn't slowing down. This week she revealed on her blog that she has just shot the latest campaign for Love Moschino. If that wasn't enough, she even manage to bag lunch at the brand's artistic director, Rosella Jardini's house.
The Oscars of the fashion calendar is fast approaching with the CFDA Awards less than a week away now, and as always they have produced a programme for the awards alongside a journal, where for a break in tradition it isn't only the designer's work that features in a sexy photo shoot, but the talent behind the pieces too.
Alexander Wang chose to pose with six of his high school friends, whilst provocative Tom Ford posed on his own with a series of mirrors, resulting in an image of ten Tom Ford's (surely never a bad thing). Along with Wang and Ford, Prabal Gurung and Jason Wu were also among the designers shot by Solve Sundsbo for this year's awards, which takes place on Monday, with Lori Goldstein at the helm of styling and Trey Laird in charge of creative direction.
Georgia May Jagger finally has competition and it comes in the form of Annie Lennox's daughter Tali Lennox who has just been signed up with model agency Select. At just seventeen years of age and 5ft 9 inches tall, unlike her mother and older sister Lola both in the music industry, the teen wants to pursue a career in fashion design. Having just featured in a sexy shoot for Australian magazine Kurv, the youngster is certainly giving the likes of Amber Le Bon a run for her money in the shoot sporting a sheer shirt and skin-tight leggings showing off her enviable legs and model stance.
Tali hit the London scene last year when she was photographed with Peaches Geldof, Daisy Lowe and Alice Dellal around town and most notably at London Fashion Week. Living quite the glamourous lifestyle at such a young age, Annie Lennox talks quite differently of her teen years compared to both of her daughter's saying:
"Their upbringing has been totally different to mine. I was brought up in a tenement house in a working district. We didn't even have a bathroom! We had a gaslight in the hallway and a black-and-white TV. My kids could be from a different planet, not just in terms of the working-class thing, but also because of the age we are living in, with mobile phone and the internet."
Definitely one to watch, Tali Lennox is rumoured to be the newest "It girl" around London.
One of my favorite moments that always comes to mind is when I walked the Versace show in Milan and Naomi Campbell was opening the show as the big special guest. It was a mens’ show so they had her like a 'ring girl' carrying a sign down the runway. We met in the middle on the runway and she said 'Here, you take this, I’m sick of holding it.' I was like 'I don’t think I’m supposed to have this sign' but you know, Naomi told me to, so I took the sign. I was like 'Really? You have to walk down one time and you can’t hold this sign?' At least she didn’t throw it at me, right?
You can’t beat the star power and energy of a Tom Ford, the ultimate multitasker, or a Christopher Bailey, who worked for Mr. Ford at Gucci before he went to Burberry, where he has gradually assumed more creative control as the British label has changed. The problem is there are just not enough of such hard-working, all-seeing individuals in the industry. With a number of companies now being run by equity-market managers, you can bet your bottom dollar that they would love to get their hands on an experienced design maestro — if more were available.
After playing raunchy Samantha Jones for six seasons and two films, it would be hard to imagine that SATC starlet Kim Cattrall could get any sexier, however the actress showed up in Tokyo for the film's Japanese premiere sporting a new blunt bob - and we think her sex appeal just upped it's ante.
The change comes just days after Cattrall was promoting the latest SATC film in New York with a side swept lock of ringlets, and she isn't the only actress from the series to be experimenting with her hair. While Samantha might have gone for the chop, Miranda Hobbs, otherwise known as Cynthia Nixon showed up to the London premiere with considerably longer locks, adding red extensions to her usually short do.
