It's becoming increasingly difficult to think of an area that Alexa Chung hasn't tapped into. Aside from the presenting and fashion work she's doing in her ambassador role for the British Fashion Council, she recently shot a cameo appearance in the final season of 'Gossip Girl' and also confirmed that she has a fashion line in the works but it doesn't end there.
According to the Telegraph, her next big project is a book focusing on her style and how she puts outfits together. The as yet unnamed book is set to drop next September and will reportedly offer an 'unparalleled chance to enter Alexa's world and search for inspiration' and will go through 'how to decide what to wear, style influences, personal pictures and style tips.'
The House of Holland show is always a big celebrity attraction and was this season was no different. The FROW had all of the usual faces like Pixie Gledof, Leigh Lezark and Alexa Chung but this season Kelly Osborne attended too. The red leather halter neck dress that she wore to attend the show doesn't look particularly good in photos but in person, she actually managed to pull it off.
Alexa Chung helped Mulberry reach record profits with their 'Alexa' bag, has designed successful lines for Madewell and is currently the creative director of Superga so it was only a matter of time before she decided to launch her own line and by the sounds of things, that's exactly what she plans to do.
'In this current era of celebrity no one believes you can actually design the stuff anyway, even though I sketch everything myself,' she said in an interview in the latest issue of Numero magazine. 'So if it sucks I can say I had nothing to do with it, and if it's really good I can say, 'Here are the drawings, it's all my own work!''
Yes, it's true! Yesterday morning British Vogue confirmed that Alexa Chung will appear in the final season of Gossip Girl and this week, has been busy filming scenes alongside Blake Lively and Leighton Meester. At the moment there's been no word on how may episodes she will star in but what we do know is that the appearance will be a cameo rather than a role.
Considering that fashion plays such a prominent part in the show and the Americans are just as obsessed about her as people are on this side of the pond, the news comes as no surprise. It would have been a lot more interesting, though, to see her have a real role. I mean, how brilliant would it have been to see her play Dan Humphries latest squeeze?
She's starred in campaigns for Superga, Vero Moda and Pepe Jeans but now Alexa Chung is lending her face to Maje. This week the presenter was unveiled as the brand's latest face at an event held in Paris and now the first images of the Fall 2012 campaign are out.
The Glen Luchford-lensed shots come in black and white and 'were shot in the early morning at the Porte des Lilas subway station in Paris are meant to evoke a Sixties film heroine,' WWD reports. 'Elegant yet eddy, her attitude reflect a personality that is both glamorous and rock 'n' roll,' the brand said in a statement. 'It's really love at first sight,' Maje creative director Judith Milgrom said. 'She's a chameleon. She has a way of wearing designs that is very personal.'
Aside from my trusty Converse, trainers aren't something I wear but Superga has swayed me. The Italian sneaker company is doing really well. First up they brought Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsenon board as creative directors of a special line for The Row, back in January Alexa Chung was announced as the creative director of the main line and last week they opened their first American store in SoHo. Alexa Chung was out and about recently pushing the S/S12 collection, which is currently available on Shopbop.
Fellow young actress Carey Mulligan just tied the knot and now Keira Knightley is following suit. Over the weekend her rep confirmed that she is engaged to her boyfriend of 15 months, James Righton of the Klaxons, who she was introduced to by Alexa Chung.
The big question now is who will be the designer of choice to design her wedding dress? Since she's the current face of Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle fragrance and has always had a good relationship with the brand, Karl Lagerfeld is currently the front runner. So far, though, her rep is keeping quiet about the details.
Which designer would you like to see design her big dress?
Yesterday was a busy night in New York. As well as the Time 100 party, the city also played host to the Chanel Artist Dinner during the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival at the Odeon. All of the names you would expect were there like Camilla Belle, Leigh Lezark and models Arizona Muse and Karlie Kloss. Even Julia Restoin-Roitfeld made an appearance showing her ever growing baby bump
A week ago this image of Alexa Chung, which she posted on Instagram, helped keep the current debate about banning 'thinspo' on social networking channels alive. Tumblr was the first to ban the images on their platform and after receiving a lot of images on their platform as a result, Pinterest quickly followed suit leading the same thing to happen to Instagram. Not willing to appear like they are not taking a zero-tolerance approach too, Instagram release a statement in their community guidelines prohibiting the images:
Don't promote or glorify self-harm: While Instagram is a place where people can share their lives with others through photographs, any account found encouraging or urging users to embrace anorexia, bulimia, or other eating disorders; or to cut, harm themselves, or commit suicide will result in a disabled account without warning. We believe that communication regarding these behaviors in order to create awareness, come together for support and to facilitate recovery is important, but that Instagram is not the place for active promotion or glorification of self-harm.
Now hashtags like 'thingspo' and 'thinspiration' no longer yield search results.
Do you think Instagram's decision to follow the others will make any difference?
Alexa Chung is on the thin side. I don't think anyone can deny that but this week the presenter's body image was the subject of controversy after she posted an image of herself on Instagram. On the surface the image simply shows Chung posing with her mother but the controversy has stemmed from the size of her legs, which are on display under her denim dress.
The past few months have seen the issue of thinspiration images back in the media, especially with Tumblr and Pinterest cracking down on thinspo images being made available on their sites. Chung's images has fuelled the debate as many have said that her photographs are perpetuating the problem and are being used as inspiration images for weight loss and eating disorders. While some fans saw her size as aspirational, the majority of the comments were bad with some labelling her body as 'unhealthy' and others going as far as to say she looks 'disgustingly skinny'.
