Selena Gomez has been out and about this week promoting her new film, Spring Breakers, which she stars alongside Vanessa Hudgeons and Ashley Benson. Earlier on this week she wowed in that black and gold Dolce & Gabbana dress but last night she went all glam in this Atelier Versace dress.
Gomez tends to be a bit hit and miss on the red carpet and sadly this isn't one of her best looks. The excess fabric on the hips drown her tiny frame but otherwise, the hair and make are pretty as usual and she finished the look off with strappy Sergio Rossi shoes, a Judith Leiber clutch and Lorraine Schwartz jewellery.
Along with the Met Gala, the annual amfAR event during the Cannes Film Festival is one of the biggest events on the calendar. Unlike some of the big award ceremonies that can often be a bit hit and miss, amfAR always attracts a good red carpet and last night, with the exception of Kate Upton, was no exception.
Diane Kruger continued her reign as one of the best dressed women at this year's event, sporting a dress from the Chanel Resort 2013 collection that was unveilved recently. Karolina Kurkova continued her love of all things gold in a beautiful Roberto Cavalli sheer sequin dress with a matching jacket but you'll pleased to know that it came sans gold blingy hat.
Yesterday I wasn't completely convinced by Freida Pinto's black Versace outfit but today's dress from the brand is perfection. The actress chose that bright yellow dress with the lace and sculptural hip detail that we all fell in love at the S/S12 Atelier show. She sported the outfit to attend the premiere of the 'De Rouille et D'Os' premiere during the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.
Until January, Versace had an eight year hiatus from showcasing their couture collections in a runway format. The last show took place on the stairs of the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris and didn't go down particularly well so yesterday Donatella Versace confirmed that the venue will now change.
On July 1 the brand will play host to two runway shows at the Ritz ahead of it's lengthy closure for renovations. 'It is with tremendous emotion that I return to the Ritz where I shared so many special moments with my brother,' she said in a statement. 'The closing of the Ritz Paris for two years represents the end of an era but also the beginning of a new one, so to be able to show Atelier Versace there one last time will be a memorable milestone.'
The red carpet looks at last night's Oscars was mixed. Angelina Jolie looked incredible in an Atelier Versace black gown with thigh high slit, just about everyone wearing Elie Saab Couture looked incredible and Emma Stone stole the show in a red halter neck Giambattista Valli Couture gown.
Unsurprisingly, Jessica Chastain chose an Alexander McQueen gown and Rooney Mara chose Givenchy as we expected but unfortunately did not make the statement that we were all hoping for. The most interesting look of the night came from Gwyneth Paltrow who, like last year with that Calvin Klein dress, managed to pull off a difficult Tom Ford dress.
As we count down to tonight's Oscars, we have compiled some images of some of the best red carpet moments we've had over the last few years.
Naturally Hilary Swank's Guy Laroche dress that she wore to accept the Best Female gong for 'Million Dollar Baby' is in the list, alongside Nicole Kidman in that red Balenciaga halter neck dress that she wore in 2007 and that breathtaking Atelier Versace gown that Penelope Cruz wore back in 2007.
The Awards season has officially begun. Last night the Beverly Hills Hilton played host to the 2011 Golden Globe Awards. 'The Social Network' was a bigger winner on the night receiving the award for Best Motion Picture Drama, Best Director for David Fincher, Best Screenplay and Best Original Score. Colin Firth and Natalie Portman won the big awards of the night for best actress and actor respectively in a motion picture drama.
It's no secret that Donatella Versace is a fan of Christopher Kane. Since he left Central Saint Martins, it's fair to say that the British designer has been her protégé so it was no surprise when she announced the appointment of Kane as the creative director of Versus - Versace's sister brand. This week the pair were celebrating the first runway show Versus has had in over a decade.
“To restore Versus like it used to be means to bring this collection once again on the catwalk, to show in a proper location and in a proper town, and to intrigue the VIP,” Versace told W. “And it will keep getting bigger and bigger. But not too big. Not yet. Because we are not ready. If you do it big, then you’ve got to do it big. I never really gave Christopher a proper party before either, but I will.”
Having worked at Atelier Versace and on the the brand's accessories line, the big question is whether taking over the reigns of the house is in the future of Kane. “At the moment Versus is enough. But I can see him there, yes. For sure,” Donatella said.
Demi Moore and Elizabeth Banks went for drop-hip designs with plenty of ruffles at tonight's 2010 Academy Awards ceremony. Moore wore a look from Atelier Versace, and Banks similarly picked Versace.
