Maybe Steve Madden woke up one day and said, 'You know what, self? My shoes don't have enough fruit and cupcakes and other inanimate childish objects integrated into their design. Who oh WHO can help me incorporate this kind of thing while getting the kind of media buzz that will make Britney Spears' Candies endorsement deal look like last season's KMart Birkenstock knockoffs? I know - that girl who always wears the fruit and messed up Sesame Street with her boobs: Katy Perry!'
Pop Princess Britney Spears got a manga makeover for Pop magazine's latest cover, now under the reign of Dasha Zhukova. The artist behind Spears' transformation is Takashi Murakami who styled the star in a wedding dress, schoolgirl backpack, hello kitty cell phone and ankle socks for the shoot. Photographed by Todd Cole for the occasion, Spears told Grazia that before they started, "We looked at a lot of characters and artwork before we shot, so I could get a feel for what Murakami was looking for."
Choosing the mother-of-two for the cover, came about when Zhukova and Murakami were discussing the idea of manga characters. Zhukova describes Spears as perfect since,“She’s feminine, sassy, strong-willed, determined: all the things a great Pop icon should be. Couple that with some Japanese swimsuits and a Rodarte wedding gown and I think she is pretty much Poppersonified!”
Ciara and Britney Spears both opted for the sheer trend on the 2010 Grammys red carpet, with Ciara showing up in a full-length Givenchy look and Brit arriving in Dolce & Gabbana.
