Thoughts of ladylike minimalism with an edge was the starting point for designers Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs with their Spring collection. A few days before the show the duo had visions of putting a typically Cushnie et Ochs twist on traditional femininity and that's what they gave us yesterday.
Like many designers following the 'Pheobe Philo Effect', the duo opted for clean lines and reverted to minimalism but still had enough flashes of leather and embellishment to keep us interested. Jackets were structured with long lapels styled with sheer blouses and tailored shorts and cropped trousers - which were a staple last season - also made an appearance styled with sheer black shirts that appeared throughout. Skirts were just as structured - a black one in particular had one heavy pleat down the front and sat comfortably on the thighs.
Despite earring on the minimalist side, the collection was not without its details. Gold and pearl embellishment appeared on tailored shorts styled with a loose and airy white top and the designers introduced a floral print on lilac dresses and sheer shirts. True to form the print featured headless torsos just when we thought the typically hard-edged brand was going girlie on us.
