Karl Lagerfeld's collaboration with Carine Roitfeld on 'The Little Black Jacket: Chanel's Classic Revisted' is the partnership that we've all been excited for. So far the brand have teased us by taking us behind-the-scenes of the shoot for the book, as well as making us a fly on the wall at the recent exhibition for the book in Tokyo in that video that they released earlier this week.
Yesterday they launched thelittleblackjacket.chanel.com, an 'e-exhibition', which showcases everyone from Georgia May Jagger to Olivier Theyskens wearing the iconic black Chanel tweed jacket styled by Roitfeld. The concept really works. The diverse cast for the book is illustrative of the timeless quality of the piece and its ability to transcend generations and styles. The book is available online on Amazon for only $39 but in the meantime, have a glimpse at some of my favourite images from the book.
It's no secret that Mario Testino has contributed greatly to fashion and photography so it was only a matter of time before the Vogue photographer has his work officially recognised.
On May 26th, the photographer will be honored at this year's El Muse del Barrio Gala where Kate Winslet will present him with a silver Asprey tay inscribed with 30 of his friends names including Blake Lively, Julia Roberts, Tom Ford and Claudia Schiffer.
In her light of her domination of the fashion world over the last three seasons, it was hardly a surprise that Phoebe Philo won big at this year's British Fashion Awards. As expected, she walked away with the Designer of the Year award, beating competition from Erdem and Christopher Kane.
Mulberry was another winner on the night recieveing the award for best designer brand, while Nicholas Kirkwood was rightly awarded the Accessory Designer Award and Nicola Formichetti walked away with the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator.
Forget counting fresh faces by the number of shows young models walk in each season, it's time to track magazine-cover wear. This season, look 22 of the Fall '10 Balmain show - a v-neck, sparkly gold minidress - is easily the front runner. Already, the frock has been spotted on Claudia Schiffer (for one of 40 Zeit magazine covers for the read's 40th anniversary in October), Anna Dello Russo (for 10's fall issue) and Natalia Vodianova (for British Harper's Bazaar in December).
That's not to mention placements on the October cover of Indian Vogue (starring Cindy Crawford), the August issue of German Vogue (with Abbey Lee Kershaw) and the November issue of Spanish Vogue (look for Toni Garrn). Don't forget about the latest sighting, on Anne Hathaway's December cover of British Elle. Well, Balmain, you sure do know how to turn heads at the newsstand.
When Lauren Santo Domingo recently tweeted that "It's been exactly six months since I quit smoking! And by 'quit' I mean wanting to smoke every minute of everyday but not," many began to speculate that Vogue's contributing editor was pregnant. This week, Peter Davisannounced that the rumours are true that she and her husband are expecting their first child.
The fashion industry seems to be experiencing a wave of pregnancies at the moment. Model-wise, Miranda Kerr, Doutzen Kroes and Claudia Schiffer are all expecting, and now the trend is hitting editors, too. Nina Garcia recently announced her pregnancy, and Anne Slowey recently gave birth to a baby girl.
Last night, Bond Street was packed full of fashionistas and shoppers alike who all came out to celebrate Vogue's Fashion's Night Out. Just in case you were one of the few that didn't make it, here's the low down of what happened and who was there.
