Dakota Fanning is always styled to perfection in her magazine shoots but her red carpet outfits tend to let her down. Take the Met Gala for example, over the last two years she's appeared in huge tulle gowns that felt way too frilly and young for her.
Last night at the CFDA Awards we had a break through. The young actress appeared in one of the brocade dresses that we all fell in love with from the Proenza Schouler A/W12 collection teamed with the tie-front black leather booties that accompanied it.
The outfit works for many reasons. Aside from the fact that the dress was one of the most interesting things we saw at New York Fashion Week last season, Fanning looks her age whilst also looking every inch the star style that we knew she would become.

President Barack Obama knows how to throw a good party and deliver a good red carpet and the White House Correspondents' Dinner, which took place over the weekend was no different. Along with the usual mix of politicians came fashion folk like Tory Burch and Rachel Zoe, models like Kate Upton and Irina Shayk and major actresses like Kerry Washington and Claire Danes. As you know, Kim Kardashian never misses a photo-op was made an appearance with mother Kris Jenner making Obama joke, 'Why is she famous anyway?' during his speech.

Ever since I saw Dakota Fanning play Lucy Dawson in 'I Am Sam' back in 2001, I instantly had a soft spot for her. Over the few years the young actress has really come into her own and has a legion of great covers and ad campaigns to prove it. That said, along with her recent cover for ELLE UK, this cover for Wonderland is definitely one of my favourites from her so far. The 'Twilight' actress appeared alongside a mouse for the April/May issue shot by Cedric Buchet.
What do you think of the cover? Will you buy it?

When it comes to British magazines, ELLE UK has always been my favourite. Their features are always spot on (thanks Rebecca Lawthrope and Avril Mair) and their recent covers have been particularly strong. Last year's Michelle Williams and Kirsten Dunst covers were among my favourite of the year and 2012 started off well with covers from both Dakota Fanning and Alexa Chung.
But it doesn't end there. The magazine's April issue sees Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen appear in seperate covers shot by Alexi Hay and as always, the cover makes sense. Aside from regularly being cited as style icons, the pair are amongst the few celebrities that have managed to carve a legitimate fashion career for themselves so as to warrant covering a 'fashion' magazine and besides, like Alexa Chung, they appeal directly to the ELLE girl.
In the cover Mary-Kate appears [above] appears in an embellished coat from Prada, while Ashley sports a hevily embellished Dolce & Gabbana dress.

As you would expect, just about everyone turned up to see Marc Jacobs' Fall 2012 show yesterday. Front row goers included good friend Rachel Zoe who sat next to the designer's former partner Lorenzo Martone, along with editors like Suzy Menkes, Glenda Bailey, Anna Dello Russo and Amy Astley. Celebrity-wise, all eyes were 'Oh Lola!' face Dakota Fanning and Maria Sharapova.

Britain's Advertising Standards Agency has been on a roll recently. Last year Miu Miu's Hailee Steinfeld campaign was criticised for being irresponsible and the 'Oh Lola!' Marc Jacobs campaign starring Dakota Fanning was also subject to attack. Today, L'Oreal are the latest company to be under fire by the organisation.
The Revitalift Repair 10 campaign starring Rachel Weisz has been banished after Liberal Democratic politician Jo Swinson made a complaint arguing that the ads misrepresented the effects of the product, making it appear more effective than it actually is. According to the ASA, the ads had “been altered in a way that substantially changed her complexion to make it appear smoother and more even.
Do you think the ASA are right?

The UK's Advertising Standards Agency is really going on in on fashion campaigns this month. A fortnight ago they pulled Dakota Fanning's campaign for Marc Jacobs' fragrance, Oh Lola!, and now Miu Miu are in the hot seat for this shot of Hailee Steinfeld sitting on the train track.
The ASA have criticised the brand as "“irresponsible because it depicted a child in an unsafe location,” according to the Telegraph. Prada have since released a statement arguing that the concerns are unwarranted because she “could have easily moved from where she was sitting because she was not restrained in any way.”

You've probably seen the cover but now the accompanying fashion story for Elle and Dakota Fanning's December spread in W is finally out. From Kate and Pippa Middleton to Beyonce and Solange Knowles and The Kardashians, stylish sisters have dominated this year but none quite like Elle and Dakota Fanning.
This year the pair have bagged spreads in Vogue and have been embraced by everyone from Karl Lagerfeld to Marc Jacobs and their appearance in W is by far my favourite spread from the magazine this year. The styling by Lori Goldstein is both age appropriate and stylish and Mario Sorrenti's photography is spot on as always.
What do you think of the spread?
