Capes shouldn't be seen on the red carpet except for on André Leon Talley (just ask Venus Williams) and sadly, that's exactly what Karolina Kurkova wore to attend the 2012 New York City Ballet Gala hosted by Valentino. The red dress from the fall 2012 Valentino couture collection looks beautiful and the colour definitely works for her skin tone. It's just that the cape that kills it.
The launch of Carine Roitfeld's new magazine, CR Fashion Book, hasn't been without its controversies. As you will know, Condé Nast reportedly banned several photographers, models and stylists from collaborating with the former Vogue Paris editor but despite all of that, Roitfeld is flying high. The preview of the issue has gone down well and this weekend, just about everyone turned up to congratulate her at the party she hosted to celebrate the debut issue.
'It's very different from my last party,' she told The Cut, having a look at the guests in the marble-floored atrium of the Frick Museum. Around the same time last year Roitfeld through a karaoke party to celebrate her Barneys campaign at a strip club on the West Side Highway so basically the polar opposite of this year's swanky 'do. 'I want to do something different, more classic,' she said about the formal Mercedez Benz-sponsored black tie event. 'After all, I am a grandma now.'
With so much going on in the Bond Street area, you'll be fogiven for thinking that the Fashion's Night Out celebrations ended there. In fact, Covent Garden was in on the action too and over that side the biggest attraction was the Rugby Ralph Lauren store on King Street.
Rather than going down the usual route of just offering canapes and champagne, the brand partnered up with Storm models on a special project. Guests on the night and model hopefuls were able to get all styled up in their latest collection to be snapped in a fun Colourama photobooth with the person with the best photo winning a test shot at Storm models and £350 to spend in store.

Yesterday we finally saw the likes of Stella Tennant, Kate Moss and Jourdan Dunn hit the runway at the closing ceremony wearing British designers like Victoria Beckham and Alexander McQueen but the party started before the event.
Ahead of the festivities Naomi Campbell hosted a party in the capital to mark the Olympics but also for her Fashion for Relief charity. As you would expect, the party was full of fashion folk like Vivienne Westwood and Ozwald Boateng but Campbell did actually invite some athletes so British cyclist Dani King was there along, who naturally turned up sporting her gold medal.
The 'supers' were not the only ones flying the flag for British brands tonight. Tinie Tempah opted for this block coloured orange and yellow jacket from the S/S13 Burberry collection tonight to perform with 'Written in the Stars' with Jessie J at the closing ceremony. Not my favourite look from him but you might disagree.
Over the past few weeks there's been copious reports about the Spice Girls reuniting to perform at the closing ceremony. Victoria pretty much confirmed the reports when she tweeted an image of her microphone and yesterday we saw those teaser images of the band rehearings and tonight, it finally happened.
In what was by far the highlight of the night, the girls came out singing 'Spice Up Your Life' and 'Wannabe'. As yet, not all of the credits are out but what we do know is that Victoria sported a black Giles creation, as expected, and Mel. B did her best Beyonce wearing Zuhair Murad.
Yesterday InStyle hosted their 11th annual summer soiree party at The London Hotel in West Hollywood. All of the usual faces were there, like Ashley Tisdale who arrived wearing ERIN by Erin Fetherston and Twilight's Nikki Reed. Those two didn't deliver the best outfits from the night but that aside, the looks were really good.
Khloe Kardashian looked incredible and svete in a black leather dress and simple Christian Louboutin pumps and so did Christa B. Allen wearing Giorgio Armani. My favorite look, though, came from Jaimie King who looked so feminine in tht red one-shouldered dress from the pre-fall Marchesa collection.
