We all loved the collection that Stella McCartney did for Gap Kids and it looks like Diane von Furstenberg is following in her footsteps. Rumours have been circulating for a while that the American designer will create a collection for the high street retailer and it looks like the reports are true. Sources revealed to WWD that the collaboration is well underway and design boards have already been produced and is likely to be released for the S/S12 season.
Always one to shake things up, Stella McCartney's new range of children's clothing for Gap is no normal kids' range. There's adorable, Beatle-esque, military-style jackets for the boys, and miniature Stella women's wear pieces to be seen on the girls - the grey sweater jumper with a leopard on the front, being one. Skinny grey jeans with zippers up the side and shiny grey rain boots also feature in the 70-piece collection, which for children could be seen as fairly high fashion. However, McCartney designed with the kids in mind, minding not to use fabrics that were too scratchy opting for organic cotton, cashmere and wool, and making sure the collection could be mixed and matched, "otherwise kids look too twee or too streety".
