It looks like Gemma Ward'smove into the world of film from modelling might be a permanent one. The model has bagged roles in 'The Black Balloon', will appear in 'Pirates of The Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides' and is rumoured to be cast in 'Jack The Giant Killer'.
The film, which is scheduled to begin filming in spring, is allegedly "a remake of the 1962 film of the same name. Jack the Giant Killer recounts the story of a boy who rescues a princess from evil sorcerers."
Lily Cole isn't the only model foraying onto the big screen. After revealing that she intends to study theater at Yale, yesterday it was announced that Gemma Ward has been cast for the upcoming 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' movie.
According to sources, Ward will actually be acting. She has a small speaking role as a mermaid and will join the rest of the cast - including Penelope Cruz and Johnny Depp - in Hawaii in August. A close friend of the model told Australia's The Daily Telegraph: "Gemma's focus is definitely on acting. She's spent the past year studying the craft full time in New York." We all still have quite a wait to see the film as it is not set to hit theaters until May 20, 2011.
We recently reported that Gemma Ward was back (in business), having been off the radar for a couple of years, during which time she sported a more relaxed and healthy, fuller figure, than before she took time off. Frost French, the label founded by Sadie Frost and Jemima French, has now expressed their desire to have Ms Ward as their new poster girl. The only catch is that they want a 'relaxed', real girl to star in the ad campaign, they want Ms Ward in her 'real girl' mode as opposed to model mode.
Gemma Ward's recent two-year hiatus from the public eye seems to be coming to an end, if not already over. Following the death of her close friend Heath Ledger, Ward took herself out of the limelight to grieve and regroup - and left fashion insiders speculating whether this spelled the end of the 22-year-old's six-year, glittering modelling career. (Ward was discovered at 14 and rose up the modelling ranks at astronomical speeds, which resulted in her being the youngest model, at 16, to star on the cover of US Vogue.)
It seems nothing could be further from the truth, judging by her recent email to The West Australian, in which she clearly states, "I have not 'quit modelling' and my fans back home can expect to see me back at work modelling and acting in the new year." Her mother added to that by saying, "She's 22 years old and has worked incredibly hard...She's been doing some great drama theatre courses and is considering doing a three-year course in Yale which is a great possibility..." It seems that Ward is making up for lost time and proving that, like Lily Cole, some models can have beauty and brains. Jealous? Us? Either way, we're glad to welcome Ms Ward back into the fashion fold.
Model of the moment Gemma Ward has been M.I.A. for the past few months. Counting the likes of Chanel, Gucci,Valentino, Calvin Klein, Prada and Christian Dior, to name but a few, as previous clients, we were a bit surprised when the model and actress unexpectedly 'fell off the fashion radar'. That was, however, until today, when the 22-year-old model came out of hibernation to celebrate her birthday, which she shares with none other than Anna Wintour. Ward was photographed in New York's East Village with a couple of friends dressed in navy high-waisted shorts and a striped, nautical-inspired top, teamed with an on-trend leopard-print coat. We just wonder what a supermodel who ranked tenth in Forbes' 2007 list of the World's 15 Top-Earning Models will be getting for her birthday? Jealous?
