Remember those images of Kate Moss starring in the campaign for her collection with Fred and their uncanny resemblance to Moss' S/S12 David Yurman ads? Well, it looks like all hasn't been forgiven because the jeweller has dropped the model for fall 2012 and opted for Gisele Bundchen instead.
Changing models for campaigns isn't anything new but considering that reps from the brand called the Fred campaign 'embarrassingly similar' to the ones Moss posed for them the year before, this change was definitely a lot more personal. A source close to the brand reportedly confirmed this to the Daily Mail saying that 'David decided that after Kate's faux pas she just wasn't the right fit for the brand any longer.'
Things haven't been too good for Esprit. As we reported, earlier on this month stocks in the company plummeted by 22 per cent despite the fact that they had enlisted the help of Gisele to help with a big re-branding effort.
Since that didn't work, for their fall 2012 campaign they've decided to use Erin Wasson, who has fronted their campaigns before, on her own. In the shots the model appears sporting simple parkas and staple knits oozing the laid back, painstakingly cool aesthetic that she's become known for. If they're trying to appeal to a more fashion conscious customer, Wasson seems like the perfect choice. After all, look how well she did as the face of Zadig & Voltaire.
Over the past few Gisele Bündchen has been surrounded by pregnancy rumours and while the model hasn't commented on the speculation yet, her latest editorial in Vogue Brazil hasn't done much to quieten the claims.
As you will see from the gallery, in just about every one of the Patrick Demarchelier-lensed shots, Bundchen poses either with an arm covering her stomach of standing in a strategic way to avoid having it on display. Okay, so it doesn't quite confirm that the reports are true but considering that the shoot was shot in June, it does suggest that the rumours shouldn't be rejected altogether.
You see it. I don’t get on with Gisele. We don’t see eye to eye, we argue and we don’t enjoy working with each other (they have shot three campaigns together). Like I say, we are very privileged but what we do isn’t saving lives, it isn’t brain surgery. And I’m not going to get on with anyone who takes it for granted or thinks they’re someone special. My advice to any young model is very simple. Just don’t believe your own hype.
Gisele isn't only the most successful model in Brazil. As Forbes continually likes to remind us, she's also the richest model in the world. This week she returned home to support a model search competition, TopCUFA, which she's sponsoring.
The initiative isn't just another modeling competition. Instead its premise is to 'boost slum dweller's self esteem' by scouting girls from deprived areas in Brazil. At the event, Bundchen met with the final 30 hopefuls and spoke to them about her experiences of rejection (she was turned down by 32 agencies before being signed) and her tips to make it in the industry.
While most are struggling to keep up with mortgage payments, Gisele Bundchenis getting an upgrade and not just any upgrade. Just in case you didn't believe the frequent reports about her estimated wealth and highest paid supermodel status, look no further. Last week the Daily Mail revealed this image of the models new pad with husband Tom Brady.
$20 million bagged the couple this 22,000 square foot Brentwood, CA home that comes with eight bedrooms, wine seller, bridge to adjoin the two wings and a lagoon-shaped pool. But don't worry, as you know Bundchen is all about being eco-friendly so their new abode is kitted with solar panels, rain recovery programs and energy efficient appliances. And they say there's a recession....
Gisele Bündchen is everywhere at the moment. This week Harper's Bazaar Brazil launched their first issue and as you would expect, the Brazilian native was the cover model of choice but it doesn't end there.
After closing the Givenchy show last month, many began to speculate whether she would replace Mariacarla Boscono as the face of the brand's S/S12 campaign and it looks like the rumours might be true. Last week, male model Noah Mills tweeted, "Going to jamaica tomorrow to shoot with Gisele ; ) dope.. can't wait to go," and longtime Givenchy hairstylist Luigi Murenu tweeted about the same shoot saying, "had an incredible day with Giselle [sic]in the most beautiful location !!!amazing!!!!"
You can see these black Balenciaga biker boots everywhere and we have Gisele Bundchen to thank for them being featured in the brand's SS11 show.
"The idea was to have this crazy casting with Gisele and Amber Valletta and Carolyn [Murphy], and they said no for high heels," Nicholas Ghesquiere explained. "They were not used to walking with heels anymore. Gisele was worried; she would not walk with my heels ... I was already thinking flats and I was already preparing the flat shoes."
We love this cover. Simple as that. Lara Stone looks smouldering in this black dress pushed to the side to reveal some thigh high stockings on the latest cover of Vogue Paris shot by Inez and Vinoodh.
This is definitely the best cover that we've seen since Emmauelle Alt has taken over as editor-in-chief of the magazine. When her appointment was announced, Alt made it clear that she plans to move away from the sexed up aesthetic that we all loved and expected from the magazine under Carine Roitfeld. "I always want a relationship with reality: nothing too sexy, or provocative, or fashion victim. We are French — we can show smoking, nudity. We have no boundaries, and it can be good to have them." And the last two covers have followed in that vain, with Gisele Bunchden looking feminine and romantic in a white lace Dolce & Gabbana dress for Alt's first issue as editor, followed by Kate Moss in a two piece suit, signalling a stark departure from the risque aesthetic that the magazine is known for.
Gisele Bundchen has a lot to smile about. It's well known that the Brazillian model is the top earning model but Forbes predicts that she could be heading to set another record. According to their predictions, if she continues to earn as much as she is now she could become the world first billionaire supermodel as well as the first female self-made billionaire in Brazil.
Over the last 10 years she is alleged to have earned around $250million but her new ventures will dramatically increase her earning potential. Her new brand, Gisele Bundchen Brazillian Intimates, is expected to bring in an added $19 million per year; last year she founded Sejaa Pure Skincare, an eco-friendly cosmetics company which is owns entirely, which is set to generate a healthy return and she also rakes in a healthy sum, from her role as creative director of C&A's Gisele Bundchen collection. The model has also invested in a strong portfolio of real estate including a hotel in Southern Brazil.
