I learned a tremendous amount from my time at Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent, but I was always designing within an existing framework. In launching my own line, I am allowed to only create products that I believe in. Everything at Tom Ford is steeped in my DNA — it would be a step backwards for me now to go and design for another fashion house.
Gucci and Florench Welch have a great relationship. Last year the brand's creative director Frida Giannini booked the singer to front their campaign and it wasn't really a surprise. After all, Welch does look beautiful in their clothes so much so that this week, Gucci confirmed that they have teamed up with her for the second time to design the costumes for the next Florence + the Machines tour.
'Seeing Florence evolve as an artist since her last tour has been truly inspiring, and I was delighted to work with her on this new wardrobe,' Frida Giannini said in a statement. 'For her on-stage style, we wanted to create a romantic yet modern aesthetic for Florence to interpret with her dark glamour and dramatic sensuality.'
New York Fashion Week is officially in full swing. During fashion month it's easy to forget that there is life outside the shows but just like fashion, Hollywood doesn't stop and this morning we're all waking up to a big story. According to People magazine, fashion favourite Blake Lively tied the knot with Ryan Reynolds in a secret wedding over the weekend.
A source confirmed to the title that the couple got married last night just outside of Charleston. According to the source, Florence Welch, who Lively met on the set of 'Gossip Girl', performed three songs at the event. As yet there's still no word about who designed her wedding dress but it's pretty safe to say that it's either Frida Giannini at Gucci or Karl Lagerfeld.
As much as it keeps people buying them, working with celebrities on covers isn't a complete bed and roses for magazines. Earlier on this year US InStyle had to go ahead and release a loved-up cover interview with Heidi Klum after her separation with Seal was announced and the same was true of Marie Claire with Kim Kardashian. The latest victim of the problem is British Vogue.
Over the weekend this image of their September cover starring a Gucci-clad Kristen Stewart was leaked online. While it hasn't been confirmed, it's pretty safe to say that the cover interview took place before the whole affair scandal went down and isn't likely to have the same impact or go down quite as well as it would have done.
US ELLE is one of the few magazines that actually benefited from this happening with their September issue starring Katie Holmes, with everyone bagging a copy to see if there were any tell tale signs that her marriage with Tom Cruise was on the rocks. Something tells me that Vogue won't be so lucky.
As much as Blake Lively worked as the face of the Chanel Mademoiselle campaign, her pairing with Gucci is the perfect match. Last month the brand released that beautiful Mert & Marcus-shot print ad in which the actress stars and today, a short film directed by Nicholas Winding Refn was released to accompany the print campaign.
The video begins in the famous Goldstein Residence in Hollywood, which you might remember for the Charlie's Angels movies, before heading to the desert. Lively glistens like a star in a gold sequin Gucci gown surrounded by gold and absolutely epitomises that old school timeless Hollywood glamour look. It's a shame that Hugo Boss didn't do something similar with Gwyneth Paltrow for her fragrance campaign.
When Gucci announced the appointment of Charlotte Casiraghi has the face of their Forever Now line, it made sense, especially since they both share a passion for all things equestrian. Back in March the brand unveiled the first installment of the four different ads that the young royal has signed up for and today, the second installment was released.
Shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, the latest campaign comes in black-and-white and celebrate's Gucci's iconic metal horsebit, which has become a prominent feature of their accessories. 'It is a real pleasure to collaborate with Frida Giannini and Gucci to celebrate one of the House's most elegant symbols: the horsebit,' Casiraghi explained. 'The atmosphere on the set was very natural and intimate which made that moment very special.'
When Blake Lively was announced as the face of Gucci's new fragrance, it raised some questions. As she is still a handbag ambassador for Chanel many began to ask whether her new gig would be a conflict of interest.
At the time the news was announced Chanel decided to keep quiet about the matter but the fact that the actress didn't turn up to the Chanel couture show recently, which she usually attends, only ignited the rumours. As a result, the brand released a statement today to quash the reports tell the New York post that, 'Blake is still an ambassador to Chanel and regularly keeps in touch with designer Karl Lagerfeld. She was invited to the couture sow but couldn't make it because she was promoting 'Savages'...She still wears Chanel whenever she can.'
'Gossip Girl' may be over but Blake Lively already has a string of movies in the work and that's not all. Today Gucci confirmed that the 24-year old will front the campaign for their new fragrance, Gucci Première.
'Gucci is a staple. It is a brand I have always looked up to because to me it represents strength,' the actress told WWD. 'In their designs, in their images, in what they stand for philanthropically, and especially in their fragrance. I couldn't be more proud to be working with Gucci and its heart, Frida.'
Since June is in full swing most of the biggest campaigns for Fall 2012 have already dropped and so far they are looking good. This week Mulberry released all of the images of their campaign, in what has quickly become one of my favourites, and stars Lindsey Wixson alongside a furry friend shot by Tim Walker.
Equally good are the Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott-lensed Gucci ads, which stars very sultry looking Karmen Pedaru and Nadja Bender. For Jean Paul Gaultier, Karlie Kloss appears again and joins forces with Willy Vandeperre who shot her for those Bally campaigns a few seasons ago. Stella Tennant, who has been clocking up quite a few editorial appearances recently, has also bagged a big campaign this season fronting the Givenchy ads.
Jessica Chastain split opinions in that white Alexander McQueen dress this week but yesterday she was back on form. To attend the premiere of her new movie, 'Lawless' during the Cannes Film Festival, the actress chose this chiffon Gucci dress with gold embellishment.
