Sam Taylor Wood shooting the Maison Martin Margiela for H&M campaign
When H&M confirmed that its next collaboration is with Maison Martin Margiela, like everyone else, I was surprised but the partnership is without doubt one of the ones I'm most excited about. Since the initial preview images were released not much has been said about the line, which is hardly surprising considering that Anna Dello Russo's accessories line has just dropped but that's quickly changing.
Today the high street retailer confirmed that Sam Taylor Wood has shot both the print and film campaigns for the collection. The British photographer and film director partnered up with creative director Markus Kiersztan and shot the campaign on the streets in Paris. Only one image has been released showing the model wearing a squarish oversized jacket; very Margiela.
The collection hits stores on November 15 with the print ads dropping later this month.
File this under another example of we all love Anna Dello Russo. Never one to shy away from showing off her moves, ADR has just dropped this video, 'Fashion Shower', ahead of the launch of her new accessories line for H&M.
The video was shot by Alex Turvey and sees the Vogue Japan editor doing a Madonna, posing her different yoga moves while wearing a fringed Mark Fast dress. And aside from her moves, you can also enjoy her chanting things like 'Fashion is always uncomfortable, when you get comfortable, you never get the look,' in a dramatic way in time with the music.
H&M always celebrate their partnerhsips in a big way so it'll be interesting to see what they do with this one. Dello Russo performing with Lady Gaga maybe? Now that would be a moment!
David Beckham's statues have officially landed in all of their Tintin glory and today, his second bodywear campaign for H&M has officially launched. While the campaign doesn't steer too far from the last one, the latest ads are apparently all about focusing on the form and fit of the classic style.
'I am so excited about this new campaign for David Beckham Bodywear at H&M,' he said in a statement. 'I wanted to express the strength and quality of the David Beckham Bodywear collection with these images, and also wearability and fit. I love the range and feel so comfortable in each of the pieces. As soon as the collection was launched, it became second nature for me to wear it.'
Lana Del Rey may have been confirmed as the face of H&M for fall recently but this morning the high street retailer confirmed that she's not alone, as they've just tapped actor Joel Kinnaman to front their A/W12 menswear offerings.
Kinnaman, who you might recognise from 'RoboCop' or the US remake of 'The Killing,' was filmed by famed video director Jonas Åkerlund for the commercial sporting key pieces from the collection like varsity jackets, denim shirts and crewnecks. 'H&M makes it easy for a guy to look great every single day and create a personal style,' he said in a statement. 'Their men's collection always gives me a choice of how I want to dress, whether it be sharp in a suit and polo-neck, or more relaxed in jeans and a tweed jacket. That's why I'm so happy to be the face of H&M this season.'
You'll be pleased to know that David Beckham's Bodywearbrand for H&M isn't going anywhere anytime soon, so yes, that means that the second round of ads starring the sportsman appearing scantily clad are coming.
The new season campaign will launch on Thursday and to celebrate, H&M have decided to go one step further from the camapign projection that they did on the white cliffs in Dover earlier on this month. Instead, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco will have 10-foot silver statues of Beckham scattered around the respective cities.
Back in June, Page Six reported that Lana Del Rey had shot a campaign for H&M in New York. At the time neither her camp nor H&M's press office denied the claim and now we know that the silence was because the reports were true because today, the first images from the campaign were leaked online.
The 'Video Games' singer works her trademark beehive hair and cat-winged black eyeliner in the campaign, shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, and looks good doing so. Is she the perfect face of H&M, though, I'm not sure.
'The mood is very L.A. noir,' Donald Schneider, H&M's creative director, said in a statement. 'It's inspired by our Fall 2012 collection,' and to accompany the images, Del Rey will also perform a cover of 'Blue Velvet' for a minifilm that will appear on hm.com and in commercials from September 19.
Despite the criticism constantly surrounding Lana Del Rey, brand seems to really like her. As you know, Mulberry named a bag after her back in February and now it looks like H&M might be getting on in the action.
Page Six reports that the 'Video Games' singer is currently shooting a campaign for the high street retailer. A source reportedly told the title that, 'She's shooting a H&M campaign in New York.' So far neither Del Rey's camp nor H&M's press office have denied the claims.
H&M's partnership with Maison Martin Margiela isn't the only shock collaboration being announced this week. Today Kohl's confirmed that they are starting to partner with designers to offer affordable designs and first up is Narciso Rodriguez. WWD reports that the designer, most known for outfitting Michelle Obama on election night back in 2008, has signed on to create a one-off collection for the retailer that will drop this winter.
The announcement is unexpected because it marks Kohl moving in a new direction. They're known for working with celebrities having worked with Jennifer Lopez and Lauren Conrad on lines but aside from their partnership with Vera Wang, they haven't really teamed up with designers before. So far they haven't released information about what can we expect but since their partnership with Rodriguez kicks off their new designer collaborations, I'm sure it will be good.
When I reached out to their UK press team yesterday they were staying mum but this morning H&M released a press release confirming that the Maison Martin Margiela collaboration is taking place just as we all thought and will hit stores on November 15.
'MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA is one of the most important and influential fashion houses of the past three decades,' Margareta van der Bosh, H&M's creative director, said in a statement. 'I am so excited by this radical collaboration which will give fashion lovers around the world the chance to wear special pieces by MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA. This collaboration will be a great and memorable fashion moment.'
In more H&M news, today the high street retailer announced that they are opening two H&M Sport pop-up shops next month to celebrate the launch of the first collection. On July 6 they will open the doors to a store in London's Covent Garden followed by another opening the following day in Westfield Stratford City.
To support the launch they will also launch a limited edition collection in colours playing homage to the British flag ahead of the Olympics coming to London this summer. 'We're very excited to be opening the UK's first pop up store in Covent Garden and concept store in Westfield Stratford,' Magnus Olsson, country manager at H&M UK, said in a statement. 'It's nice for our customers and is a new twist on the H&M business concept of fashion and quality at the best price.'
The H&M Sport stores open for ten weeks, from midday on July 6 in St Martin's Courtyard, Covent Garden and July 7 in Westfield Stratford City.
