When Michael Kors opened his New Bond Street store this week, he was feeling 'optimistic'. Optimistic that his clothes would sell well, optimistic that they wouldn't show up in vintage shops a year later, optimistic that wall prints of his icons (Jackie Kennedy, Jack Nicholson, Goldie Hawn, Robert Redford) would make shoppers want to hang out.

Kors told Vogue.com: "You have to be upbeat...Customers buy a piece and wear it until it's worn out - we are not what you would call a 'one night only' brand."

"This is the best thing to wear for today, you understand. And you can always take off the skirt and use it as a cape."

Do I have a new obsession to top Mad Men? HBO's film Grey Gardens, premiering 18 April, has some of the best costume design of the season.

Drew Barrymore stars as 'Little Edie' Bouvier Beale, Jackie Kennedy's cousin and an eccentric, blueblooded New Yorker. Her look took five hours of makeup, wig work and prosthetics a day, not to mention dialect coaching to get the Long Island speak down. Jessica Lange co-stars as 'Big Edie' in the film, made by first-time director Michael Sucsy.

Grey Gardens started as an obscure 1975 documentary, which went on to become a cult classic and spawn a Broadway musical. With any luck, this version will do as well or better.
