Sophie Theallet Wins CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Prize

Sophie Theallet and Alabama Chanin

Sophie Theallet started her week off right: Last night, she took home a $200,000 prize for top honours at the Sixth-Annual CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards. The Brooklyn-based womenswear designer addressed the crowd at New York's Skyline Studios by saying, "I'm French, so I'm going to try to do my best...Thank you for making my American dreams come true."

Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz and Nicole Kidman gave out the awards, which saw runners-up Monique Pean, a philanthropic jewellery designer, and menswear designer Patrik Ervell take $50,000 apiece. Facing a crowd including Anna Wintour, Diane von Furstenberg and Karen Elson, Pean vowed, "I won't disappoint you."

Wintour said at the event that she had met with the French minister of culture to discuss starting a similar fund in France, and the UK and Italy already have their own schemes. The editor reported that China, Russia, Brazil and India aren't far behind, but admitted still that "New York is the place to come for young designers to show what they're capable of."

Jacquetta Wheeler Had Swine Flu?

It seems she might have. Jacquetta Wheeler, Vogue UK's newest blogger, reported suspicious symptoms after a trip to Asia.

She wrote: "In May I think I was one of the first people to get swine flu. I was in Singapore for a two-day job when I came down with severe exhaustion, a terrible cough and bad headaches. Job done, I flew back to London, arrived in the morning and went straight to see my doctor. She didn't test me for the disease — she's one of those proper old school "buck up" kind of doctors..."

After that, Wheeler was off to Iceland for a shoot with a 5 a.m. wakeup call that allowed her two hours of sleep. No rest in the fashion industry, no rest.

French Vogue Heart Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin

If you thought that Lara Stone had all the love after having an entire issue of French Vogue dedicated to her, you thought wrong. It looks like Carine Roitfeld has a little more love to go around.

Recent reports claim that we can expect a whole issue photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. According to Fashionologie, we can also expect Sessilee Lopez, Jacquetta Wheeler with Shalom Harlow to be featured. Which issue this will be, is yet to be confirmed.

Vogue Dinner for Gucci

Pixie Geldof

The recent opening of Gucci's new London store seemed reason enough for Vogue (and Claudia Schiffer, and Erin O'Connor) to have a luxed-up dinner party. Gucci's Creative Director Frida Giannini and a select group chosen by Vogue UK Editor-in-Chief Alexandra Schulman headed to a special 'Gucci lounge' at Chelsea's new Saatchi Gallery. With Richard Ashcroft providing musical entertainment and Lizzie Jagger among the guests, how can you expect to have a bad time?
