The CFDA Awards are less than a week away and now the confirmations of those involved are coming in thick and fast. While we already know who some of the awards are going to - Johnny Depp is receiving the style icon award and the media award is going to Garance Dore and Scott Schuman - this years presenters have remained under wraps until now.
According to WWD, Jessica Chastain will present the women's wear award to Marc Jacobs, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen for The Row or Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez for Proenza Schouler. The menswear award will be presented to either Billy Reid, Simon Spurr or Patrik Ervell by Matt Bomer and Jessica Paré will present for accessories.
On a different note, who else has a feeling that Kim Kardashian will attend this year's event to make a point after Met Gala-gate?
Yesterday Diane von Furstenberg and CFDA CEO Steven Kolb held an event in New York to announce the nominees for this year's CFDA awards. The nominees were not a surprise. The usual names like Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen for The Row was in the mix alongside Jack McCollough and Lazaro Henandez for Proenza Schouler, Marc Jacobs, Rachel Roy and Alexander Wang.
Last year's fashion icon award went to Lady Gaga leading many to question how they will be able to top that. Even Kolb tweeted: 'How do you top @ladygaga from last yr? We will!' This time the award will go to Johnny Depp, the first male to ever receive the award but while I've always been a fan of his, I'm not convinced that he can top Gaga.
If you're the avid Tweeter, you'll know that last night GQ played host to their annual Men of the Year Awards. Twitter was set on fire as Johnny Depp came out to present the award Best Writer award to Keith Richards - but he wasn't the only person winning big on the night. Duran Duran walked away with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, Tinie Tempah rightfully picked up the gong for Solo Artist and Mario Testino was presented with the Help For Heroes: Armed Forces Inspiration award.
The red carpet looks were pretty mixed. Leona Lewis looked beautiful in a white fringed dress teamed with a bright red oversized clutch and Alexandra Burke made us forgive her for her Glamour Awards blunder as she stepped out in a beautiful Peter Pilotto dress. On the other end of the spectrum, Charlize Thereon failed to impress in wide trousers that were not the most flattering and The Saturdays' outfits don't get my vote.
Last night the Nokia Theatre in L.A. played host to the 2011 People's Choice. Jennifer Aniston presented Adam Sandler with the award for favourite comedy actor and Jackie Chan was awarded the title as favourite action star, which went to Johnny Depp last year. As expected, 'Twilight' was the big winner of the night receiving three awards and Kristen Stewart walked away with the big favourite actress gong.
Lily Cole isn't the only model foraying onto the big screen. After revealing that she intends to study theater at Yale, yesterday it was announced that Gemma Ward has been cast for the upcoming 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' movie.
According to sources, Ward will actually be acting. She has a small speaking role as a mermaid and will join the rest of the cast - including Penelope Cruz and Johnny Depp - in Hawaii in August. A close friend of the model told Australia's The Daily Telegraph: "Gemma's focus is definitely on acting. She's spent the past year studying the craft full time in New York." We all still have quite a wait to see the film as it is not set to hit theaters until May 20, 2011.
Having already opted for French beauty Vanessa Paradis in two previous handbag campaigns, Karl Lagerfeld chose Vanessa Paradis once more, this time as the new face of Chanel's Coco Cocoon bag line. "She is the most devine person to work with and to be with. So why change?" Lagerfeld told WWD of his muse, who also stars in the Rouge Coco lipstick ads.
The black and white shoot took place at Lagerfeld's Rue de Lille studio, and sees Paradis draped over a black leather couch looking ultimately cool in a beanie, holding some seriously enviable arm candy - of which is not Johnny Depp, for once. The pair have also collaborated recently when Paradis guest-edited a special edition Cannes Film Festival issue of Madame Figaro, which saw Lagerfeld not only lensing the cover shoot, but also starring in it alongside the French singer/model/actress. The Coco Cocoon campaign will launch in time for June's monthlies, with bags available in stores from the 15th of May.
Last Saturday, The Fash Pack was lucky enough to be amongst a select group - including Jefferson Hack, Derek Blasberg and Catherine Ostler, editor of Tatler - to be invited to the first-ever screening of the innovative Tim Burton's Disney film, 'Alice in Wonderland'. After having a preview of the designer collaborations involved in the project, the film was introduced by Alice Temperley who has collaborated with Disney on the film.
The movie, which is set to have its UK premiere tonight and will be in cinemas on March 5th, took us on a fantasy 3D adventure. The eccentric characters, played by Johnny Depp (The Mad Hatter), Mia Wasikoska (Alice), Helena Bonham Carter (Red Queen) and Anne Hathaway (White Queen), added a source of inspiration for a string of designer collaborations.
Carey Mulligan, up until last year, was relatively unknown. She had starred alongside the likes of Johnny Depp and Christian Bale in Public Enemies, and Natalie Portman in the Brothers, but really didn't make a splash until the realease of her last film. The success of An Education resulted in her name being on everyone's lips, and she has since become one to watch both for her acting and in the fashion stakes. We've been impressed with the petite screen siren's sense of style and love of abstract designs. And it wasn't until we read Grazia Daily's 'dossier' on her recent choice of outfits that we realised that the proof is in the Prada.
After Johnny Depp, Jefferson Hack and Pete Doherty, it looks like our notorious party girl is settling down at last. Having met just 3 years ago through mutual friend Sadie Frost, Kate Moss and The Kills guitarist Jamie Hince are now engaged. According to reports, “Hotel”, as fans know him, flew out to the private West Indies island Mustique, where Moss was working, and proposed to the 5ft 6 model on her 36th birthday last Saturday.
Apparently, Philip Green, British billionaire and owner of Topshop - where Moss has a clothing line - helped Hince choose an engagement ring. Let's hope the two of them, along with Moss’ 8-year-old daughter, Lila Grace, all settle down well.
