When we all started to saying that Katie Holmes was making a comeback after she appeared on the September issue of US ELLE, I don't think any of us quite appreciated how much of a comeback she had planned. First up was the news that she was taking her line, Holmes & Yang, to New York Fashion Week this season and yesterday, WWD reported that she's signed a deal to be the face of Bobbi Brown.
I must point out that the report is still a rumour and neither party has commented but if the claims are true, it's a pretty big gig for Holmes. While she's not a stranger to appearing in campaigns (think H. Stern, Ann Taylor and Miu Miu), this would be the first time that Brown has tapped a celebrity to front one of her campaigns. The move seems like a good one. Aside from the fact that the whole world is watching everything she does post-Tom Cruise, Katie does have a wide appeal especially with her with the young working mums demographic and besides, she's beautiful too.
Earlier on his month Katie Holmes confirmed that she is taking her line, Holmes & Yang, to New York fashion week. While the announcement did make it clear that the collection will be showed in a presentation format rather than a runway show, not much was said about the date but now we have more news.
Grazia originally reported that the actress would show on September 9, at the same time as Victoria Beckham but as the dramatic nature of the report suggests, it isn't true. British Vogue confirms that Holmes will actually show on September 12 between 9.30 a.m. and 10.30 a.m at the Lincoln Centre, meaning that she'll go head-to-head with Michael Kors whose show is set to begin at 10am.
Considering all the attention surrounding Holmes and the news that her line is going down a treat in stores since her split with Tom Cruise, I'm sure that buyers and editors will make the effort to go to the presentation even if that does mean dashing there before Kors' show starts.
US ELLE have had everything to smile about this month. Their August cover with Katie Holmes has probably been the most talked about cover this month since it dropped on the back of the announcement of the end of her marriage with Tom Cruise. Now, it's emerging that they aren't the only ones benefiting from the current interest in the actress.
California-based C magazine have just released their latest cover starring Holmes, which, according to WWD, was shot a week before the announcement was made and the interview took place only the day before. The editor of the magazine told the title that there were signs that all wasn't well. 'Homes was certainly very aware of herself, laying a couple of cards on the table but never showing her who hand' and 'most notably, the one name decisively absent from her lexicon: Tom Cruise. She never actually refers to him by name over pages and pages of transcription.' When Cruise was brought up when Katie was asked whether having Suri brought the pair together, she responded: 'I don't know. I mean...I don't know. People have been having babies a long time.'
Ever since the news broke, she's been everywhere. Not so long ago she shocked everyone by seeing through her commitment to make a guest appearance on Project Runway All Stars despite it taking place at the height of the media circus; and in the ELLE interview she revealed that she's taking her brand to New York Fashion Week. By the sounds of it, the attention has served her well. Today Barneys told Fox News that her label, Holmes & Yang, has been 'selling particularly well' in both their New York and Beverly Hills stores and that's only expected to increase.
The timing seems to go beyond being a pure coincidence. What do you think?
There is no denying that Chloe Moretz has made a real splash on the red carpet this past year. Unlike many young stars, her stylist had managed to straddle the balance between dressing her in key pieces whilst also making sure that she looks age appropriate at the same time.
And the hard work is paying off as Moretz has been confirmed as the recipient of this year's Women in Film Max Mara Face of the Future Award in recognition of 'her oustanding achievements and her embodiment of style and grace.' At 15 years-old, Moretz is the youngest person to win the award as former winners include people like Katie Holmes and Zoe Saldana.
Modelling seems to come easily to Katie Holmes. Back in 2009 she looked amazing in the Mert & Marcus-shot Miu Miu campaign and earlier on this year she lent her face to the Ann Taylor ads but now she has another campaign under her bow.
Yesterday these images were released showing the actress show off the latest collection from H. Stern. Shot by Tom Munro, Homes follows in the foosteps of faces like Kate Moss and Catherine Deneuve who have both fronted the brand's past campaigns.
Katie Holmes is the new spokesperson for Ann Taylor and her campaign, shot by Tom Munro, was finally released this week but is set to hit magazines in the March issues.
Holmes enters a long line of celebrities that have graced the brand's campaign including Mila Jovovich, Naomi Watts and Heidi Klum and the deal marks her second big campaign. 2009 saw her appear as the face of Miu Miu's spring/summer campaign and that year she launched her clothing line Holmes & Yang with stylist Jeannie Yang.
Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis or 'Jackie O' as she was more commonly known was not only the First Lady (and we mean the ultimate first) but a style icon to the masses. So it comes as no surprise that we and probably the rest of the media were mildly shocked when Katie Holmes was announced to play Onassis on the History Channel’s series 'The Kennedy's.'
When thinking of Holmes' none of the following really springs to mind; A-line maxis, neat skirt suits, hats, gloves, snap-shut handbags, and pearls. Yet think of Mrs O and that is exactly what does. With the addition of oversized sunglasses of course. Holmes' joins a long list of "Jackie's" over the years with everyone from Joanna Whalley to Sarah Michelle Gellar portraying JFK's famously adulated wife. We're not quite sure how Mrs Cruise will interpret the role but it will surely make interesting viewing.
