It wouldn't be too harsh to say that Emanuel Ungaro has gone from bad to worse. First off it started with that ill-advised partnership with Lindsay Lohan, which was quickly followed by a series of creative directors that didn't last at the brand for too long. To say that it was in desperate need of a shake-up, then, is quite the understatement.
And that shake-up will come from their newly appointed creative director, Fausto Puglisi. The designer has been bought on board as a last ditch attempt to save the brand who has seriously struggled financially as a result of the instability. 'Emanuel Ungaro is a brand that has left a significant mark and still has a lot to say,' Aeffe chairman Massimo Ferretti told WWD. 'Puglisi is a young talent with an international visibility, but with strong roots in our Latin world, and who will be able to turn into a new and contemporary line.'
As far as hair colours go, red has always been my dream colour. Sadly, though, a concern about ending up looking more like a dancehall queen and less like Rihanna circa 2010 has always thrown me off taking the plunge but that hasn't stopped everyone else.
Florence Welch, Jessica Chastain and Amy Adams are amongst the few leading ladies flying the flag for red hair. And far from shying away from it, more and more celebrities are embracing it as a distinguishing factor from the sea of usual blonde and classic brunettes. Blake Lively experimented with the colour in the past and so has Angelina Jolie and Julia Roberts. Even LiLo decided to ditch her blonde hair (hallelujah) and return to he natural shade recently.
Yesterday Terry Richardson posted a series of images of Lindsay Lohan at Chateau Marmont on his blog, Terry's Diary. The majority of the shots were no different from the usual images Richardson has posted of the actress in the past, showing her in various degrees of undress, but one image in particular has everyone talking.
The above shot, showing Lohan holding a gun up to her head, was amongst the images he posted and has since been taken down. The guys at Fashionista noticed that the shot is almost identical to one Tyler Shields took of the actress back in 2010. So it begs the question: is this just a publicity stunt to drum up attention or even more worringly, is it a cry for help?
The last time I wrote about Esteban Cortazar he was in the midst of a messy separation from Emanuel Ungaro as a result of him disagreeing with bosses about bringing Lindsay Lohan on board in a creative capacity. As we all thought at the time, he was right and after her appointment was made, the brand lost big stockists like Neiman Marcus and Net-A-Porter. Now it looks like the online retailer is partnering with the designer on a new project.
Yesterday WWD reported that the designer has teamed up with the site on a 17-piece 'sensual and sculptural' line. When asked, Cortazar said that the collaboration is 'a good first step' suggesting that a full line can be expected in the near future. Prices range between $270 and $2,760 and the collection will drop online on July 11.
President Barack Obama knows how to throw a good party and deliver a good red carpet and the White House Correspondents' Dinner, which took place over the weekend was no different. Along with the usual mix of politicians came fashion folk like Tory Burch and Rachel Zoe, models like Kate Upton and Irina Shayk and major actresses like Kerry Washington and Claire Danes. As you know, Kim Kardashian never misses a photo-op was made an appearance with mother Kris Jenner making Obama joke, 'Why is she famous anyway?' during his speech.
New York Fashion Week started with a bang last night as the annual amfAR New York gala event took place to kick off this season's festivities. The gala, which raises money for HIV/AIDS research, always see the best of fashion and entertainment come under one roof and as you would expect, the red carpet outfits were strong. Models were particularly on form last night. Joan Smalls looking incredible in a black Givenchy gown, Anja Rubik sported that much loved black and gold Gucci flapper dress and Liya Kebede broke the penchant for gowns by opting for this season's two tone trousers teamed with a white blouse.
2012 is supposed to be a big year for Lindsay Lohan. After a series of high profile run-ins with the law, the actress confirmed that the she will be focusing on her acting career this year as she prepares to play Elizabeth Taylor in an upcoming movie titled 'Elizabeth & Richard: A Love Story'.
With that in mind, LiLo was back on the red carpet circuit last night attending the amfAR New York gala to kick off New York Fashion Week. Yesterday the Daily Mail ran a story criticising the actress for not looking her best at the event and while the newspaper is known for unjistifiable criticising celebrities, we have to agree with them on this one. The 25 year-old's face looked much older than her years and not even her white Tom Ford outfit couldn't distract from that.
In more Lindsay Lohan news, German brand Phillipp Plein dropped their new campaign starring the actress this morning. Like when the news was announced, the big unveiling of the campaign has failed to garner the interest that both parties were hoping for. Since the campaign hasn't helped in mission re-vamp, hopefully Plein paid big to have the actress front the campaign because according to the New York Daily News, LiLo needs as much money as she can get. The tax man is reportedly chasing her for $93,000 work of unpaid taxes dating from 2009.
Over the last few years Lindsay Lohan has tried all means to reinvent herself and relaunch her career that has been turbulent, to say the least. Her recent Playboy cover failed to garner the attention she had hoped and her collaboration with designer Phillipp Plein on his latest ad campaign didn't get much press coverage. In a last ditch attempt to get her career back on track, though, the actress in currently in talks to play Elizabeth Taylor in an upcoming movie.
Titled 'Elizabeth & Richard: A Love Story', the movie will chronicle Taylor's relationship with Richard Burton and will be the first big role that Lohan has had since her short stint in prison and rehab. We really hope that this role will be the project that sees LiLo get back on track. Despite all of the controversy and drama, there's no denying that she can act so in theory, she should be able to pull it off and if we're lucky the film will be full of major fashion moments.
