Lourdes Leon is already quite the little businesswoman at merely thirteen. Following in the footsteps of her Madonna, the youngster is already making a name for herself on the circuit.
Helping her mum design a new collection for teens thats launching at Macy's on the 3rd August, the Leon hasn't spoken to the press about the line however she lets it all out on her Material Girl blog.
Helluuur thurrrr, I’m Lola and this is my first blog entry so it’s kind of like ummmm….
...I am totally obsessivo about 80’s shorts… You know the kind that makes your butt look kinda big, with a grunge-looking shirt tucked in. It’s kinda nerdy but I love it. And the 80’s are another huge obsession of mine, which is totally amazingly awesome because Material Girl…HELLO! It’s like 80’s themed, which pretty much rocks, so yeah. I’m still in love with brogues or as some people call them “oxford shoes”. I haven’t found a good sandal so I’m on like a search right now.
OK but no joke gladiator sandals are OUT. They came out in summer 2008 and I was like, ok those are really cute. Then 2009 comes around and people are still wearing them so I’m like, ok whatever it’s just a phase. BUT NOOOOO. Because good old 2010 is now coming along and people are STILL wearing them, and then I was just like OK NO! It’s been three years people COME ON!!!!!!!!! I’m just like what????
No, we're not talking about another Madonna adoption, the Material Girl star acquired a new son on the set of the latest Dolce & Gabbana campaign, 17-year old Max Schneider. The young model - who also classes himself as a multitasking actor-singer-dancer, and is only a senior at a performing arts school - assists Madonna with her grocery bags while she, as The Cut puts it, "holds her breasts in place". From Schneider's accounts of the Fall campaign, Madonna took well to her adopted offspring, too.
"It was very comfortable. She walked in the room, and I'm a big Madonna fan so I was expecting it to be nervewracking but she walked in and it was totally fine," he gushed. "I felt like her son for the day, I was supposed to be her son in the ad campaign, actually. She was just so nice to me, it wasn't like I was some random kid, she really treated me with respect and I truly respected her for that. She's such a superstar but she treats you as though you're on the same level. It was really incredible and she's just a very nice, sweet person. I was pleasantly surprised."
Whilst MTV's new Style site might be a PR vehicle in disguise for the likes of The City and The Hills, there's still some fairly interesting reads to be found.
Check out Ed Westwick's opinion on Speedos for summer, sketches from Madonna and Lourdes' new line, Material Girl, and meet the designer behind Lady Gaga's latest insane heels. The site also features the words of an alum from The Cut, Sharon Clott. Check it out here.
This fashion line produced by team mother and daughter is aimed at the 'junior' market for teens, not adults, and so this is where Madge's mini-me daughter,Lourdes comes in. With her style almost identical to her mother's in the early years of her music career, Madonna is certainly known for smart savvy moves like this., She is known for her incredible ability to find the Next Big Thing and to use their talents to enhance and update her own. Lets face it Madonna was sporting crucifixes, leotards, ripped fishnets, and underwear-as-outerwear before Lady Gagawas even born.
Madonna has always been celebrates as a fashion pioneer, most notably one of her iconic fashion moments was the Jean Paul Gaultier cone-shaped bra. Last night a sketch of one of the outfits from the new "Material Girl" range was released perhaps a bit more cutting edge in comparison to her style in the 80's. Cropped bleachy skinny jeans with zip pockets, pink gingham basque, and a spotty-lined black blazer are all cool and very modern whilst accessorised with those ubiquitous Madonna motifs, a hair bow and a crucifix necklace.
This season Madonna has also collaborated on a limited edition range of sunglasses with her designer friends Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana whilst Material Girl will be sold exclusively in America at giant department store Macy's.
That's right, Madonna's first born and only daughterLourdes Leonhas made her cover-girl debut at the tender age of thirteen for the July issue of German magazine, Quality. However, it has been suggested that she may not have even posed for the magazine after all.
Madonna is not shy in publicising that she intends to keep the teenager on the 'straight and and narrow.' On the menu for Lourdes is school, homework and maybe a little insight into the world of fashion design. Having helped her famous mother in designing some of her new junior line available at Macy's in the fall, we only wonder what will be the topic of conversation for Lourdes and her new classmates when she starts high school soon.
Kim Kardashian and Madonna have fallen victim to it and now Sarah Jessica Parker is the latest to join the group of celebrities who have had their unretouched images leaked. Jezebel leaked this image to show the amount of work down on the actress' hand.
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana were spotted in New York this week shooting their men's campaign at Mulberry Street Bar in Little Italy. Unfortunately, onlookers didn't have a chance of seeing what was going on. According to passersby, the blinds were drawn and the bar was closed causing people to speculate about who they were shooting.
Madonna, who is set to shoot her eyewear campaign for the brand with Steven Klein this week, is rumoured to also be set to feature in the brand's Fall campaign.
