Last night the CFDA Awards, the Oscars of the fashion world, took place and in New York at Alice Tully Hall and the winners are in. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen took away the big womenswear designer of the year award for The Row, Joseph Altuzarra won the Swarovski Award for womenswear and Phillip Lim for menswear and Tommy Hilfiger was awarded the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award.
Simon Spurr didn't end up winning the menswear designer of the year award, which was just as well considering all of the controversy surrounding his departure from his namesake line.

The Awards season has officially begun. Last night the Beverly Hills Hilton played host to the 2011 Golden Globe Awards. 'The Social Network' was a bigger winner on the night receiving the award for Best Motion Picture Drama, Best Director for David Fincher, Best Screenplay and Best Original Score. Colin Firth and Natalie Portman won the big awards of the night for best actress and actor respectively in a motion picture drama.

Laura Poretzky has bid a final farewell to her chic clothing collection Abaeté which ceased production in October of last year. Launched a mere six years ago in 2004, it was snapped up immediately by stores like Kirna Zabete. Known mainly for its partnership with Payless ShoeSource to create its first designer shoe collection and a series of collaborations boasting clients Lela Rose and Christian Siriano, it's sad to see the label officially close.
Despite becoming a go to brand for many, the recession hit harder hard. We hope Poretzky is not disheartened but channels her creativity into a new venture that will make her come back stronger than ever.

Jessica Biel; Mandy Moore
Jessica Biel sported this 3.1. Phillip Lim dress in ivory to a movie premiere whilst Mandy Moore opted for the same gown in black for a charity event in L.A.
Who gets your style vote?

Did you stock your closet with nothing but Heidi Montag's Heidiwood, Mandy Moore's Mblem, Jennifer Lopez's Sweetface, JLO by Jennifer Lopez? If so, get thee to a charity shop because you're probably having a hard time to find your favourite celebrity lines. Those fashion labels have all closed, while Lauren Conrad's collection is, um, taking a break, and Paris Hilton no longer has a collaboration with Dollhouse.
Other celeb-linked lines, which are less focused on the celebrity's name, are faring better, as WWD points out. Think William Rast (Justin Timberlake), L.A.M.B. (Gwen Stefani) and Rocawear (Jay-Z).

Of the new-retro singers, Duffy is pretty much what Mandy Moore was to the girl pop stars of the late '90s. (Amy Winehouse is Xtina, natch, and although she's a non-lipsynching musical genius, Adele has to be Britney because you always get the impression she could go a bit wild.)
Duffy went to Sweden this weekend for Stockholm's 'Where the Action Is' music festival, and she seems to be going a bit more modern with her hairstyle. Do you like her going more natural, or do you miss the beehive?

Mandy Moore is the latest star to grace the cover of Marie Claire US.
