To say that Lara Stone is the girl of the moment, is an understatement. Having walked for the likes of Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Miu Miu, Givenchy,Fendi, Karl Lagerfeld and Jaeger, to name but a few, and starred in ad campaigns ranging from H&M (Sonia Rykiel collaboration) and Revlon, to Jean Paul Gautier and DKNY, it is clear that the industry is head over heels in love with Ms Stone (and rightly so too!) She has most recently been ranked 3rd in a Top 50 Female Models poll put together by models.com, and deemed by W magazine (in it's August 2009 issue) as the 'most wanted face of the moment'.
With so many accolades, and a bank balance that is clearly bulging inspite of the recession, it was a surprise for us to learn that the 27 year old was admitted to rehab earlier this year, to treat alcoholism.
Richard Avedon's minimalist black and white photos were revolutionary in that he did not simply photograph clothes but was interested in the model's state of mind coming across in his images. Having worked for Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and The New Yorker, Avedon has photographed a number of celebrities, where he used his talent of getting the stars emotion to translate to his photos, sometimes even asking them uncomfortable or indecent questions in order to provoke a reaction. This often resulted in his subjects looking out of character, Marilyn Monroe distracted, Elizabeth Taylor sombre, an individual quality unmatched by any other photographer at the time.
"A portrait is not a likeness. The moment an emotion or fact is transformed into a photograph it is no longer a fact but an opinion. There is no such thing as inaccuracy in a photograph. All photographs are accurate. None of them is the truth." he said. Portraying more than just the clothes, and provoking reactions from the models is something that later photographers have taken form his work, most notably Mario Testino.
"He sells a dream," says Anna Wintour, "You want to be that woman in that glorious house, on that glorious beach and in that incredible dress." Famous for his glossy photo shoots, Mario Testino is one of the world's best loved photographers. Shooting everyone from Kate Moss to Princess Diana, Testino's career spans nearly 30 years. Peruvian born, he now lives in London, where he continues to shoot for the Royal family. Versatility being one of his greatest talents, his celebrity portraits reveal a more personal, intimate side to his subjects, whilst his ad campaigns and editorials exude sex and glamour. With designers falling over themselves to secure him for their adverts, this man sells clothes! His fall 09 campaigns include; D&G, Michael Kors, Givenchy, Versace, and Burberry to name a few. Having captured images for every major fashion magazine, this month is no different, snapping Georgia May Jagger for British Vogue.
Anyone at Somerset House this week telling you that they were not most looking forward to the return of Burberry Prorsum at London Fashion Week was most definitely telling a little white lie. The anticipation lying with the return of one of Britain's biggest brands may have equalled, or even dare we say, topped the celebration of London's 25th anniversary. A growing stir of excitement was not an over-reaction, either. The front row alone set the bar high for Christopher Bailey's latest collection, with the likes of Mario Testino, Emma Watson, Victoria Beckham, Liv Tyler, Mary-Kate Olsen and Agyness Deyn, alongside other front row appearances from Gwyneth Paltrow, Freida Pinto and Dev Patel - all wearing pieces showing on the catwalk.
We know Heidi Klum's having her fourth child and all, but that doesn't mean she couldn't take time for a new project: voicing 'Heidi Barbie'. The 11.5-inch version of the supermodel attended New York Fashion Week in place of the real 'Project Runway' presenter, who was actually at home in LA with husband Seal.
Klum's Barbie doll interviewed the likes of Michael Kors, Mario Testino and Rachel Zoe backstage during fashion week, all the while appropriately decked out in a sequined mini dress, Victoria's Secret knickers and Lorraine Schwartz ring.
"The 'Heidi Barbie' voice makes Seal crazy," admits Klum. To hear HB's interviews, just check Modelinia.
If, like us, you can't get enough of Lady Gaga, The Fash Pack have all of the pictures from the launch of V61 hosted by V Magazine, Lady Gaga, Marc Jacobs and Belvedere Vodka.
