Renée Zellweger Will Not Wear Carolina Herrera To The Met Gala

With the Met Gala happening today, more confirmations are coming in thick and fast and the latest comes from Pucci who have confirmed that Peter Dundas will dress Renée Zellweger for the event. Like Joseph Altuzarra's partnership with Lana Del Rey this year, the news comes as a surprise.

The 'Bridget Jones' actress is rarely ever spotted on the red carpet at a major event wearing anything other than Carolina Herrera and also, Dundas is known for designing pieces that ultra sexy pieces and well, let's face it, sex appeal isn't necessarily something that Zellweger tends to go for.

Which partnerships are you excited to see tonight?

Find Out All Of The Met Gala Confirmations And See Images From The Balmain Party

Just about every major designer and model has descended on New York last night ahead of the Met Gala on Monday but ahead of the event, Balmain's Olivier Rousteing threw a big party last night at Chelsea's Hotel Americano. At the event the designer spoke about the launch of the brand's new Twitter and Facebook accounts that became live this week, revealing that he plans to get in on the Twitter action himself. 'It's a good way to understand what [customers[ feel about the collection, about the clothes and they can see the details, and they can be more a part of my soul,' he told The Cut at the event. 'I hope they will 'like us' and enjoy what we enjoyed to create.'

Aside from that, what was more interesting was his revelation that Joan Smalls is his guest at Monday's event. The partnership definitely works. Smalls looks good in everything but it will be interesting to see how she looks in a piece that showcases the new direction that the young designer is taking the brand.

That wasn't the only Met Gala confirmation from last night. Karlie Kloss will accompany Jason Wu, Anja Rubik is going with Anthony Vaccarello and Constance Jablonski will attend with Haider Ackermann. New in today is that Arizona Muse is teaming up with Erdem, Thakoon with Christina Ricci and Doutzen Kroes with Roland Mouret. The most interesting confirmation is that Karolina Kurkova will attend with Rachel Zoe, cementing her as a designer to be reckoned with.

Ahead Of The 2012 Met Gala, Look Back At The Best Outfits From 2011

Jennifer Lopez in Gucci

When it comes to red carpet events it doesn't get much bigger than the Met Gala. Unlike other big carpet events, this one is particularly special as it sees designers collaborate with their chosen celebrities on never before seen looks that tie in to the selected theme.

In the past we've had 'model as muse' as a theme and last year was all about Alexander McQueen but this year's event celebrates the opening of The Metropolitan Museum of Art's much-anticipated Miuccia Prada and Elsa Schiaparelli exhibit. So with the excitement for this year's event in full swing, take a look back at some of the best looks from last year.

Which look is your favourite and who are you looking forward to see this year?

Azealia Banks Wasn't Vogue's First Choice Of Performer For The Met Ball

Yesterday I wrote about Azealia Banks' confirmation that she will perform at the Met Gala next week but according to the New York Post, she wasn't the first choice. Nicki Minaj was reportedly Vogue's first choice of performer but will not perform because her people failed to sign the papers the organizers needed, leading them to call Banks as a replacement.

The news isn't really a surprise. The magazine has made it clear that Minaj is and has been on their radar for a long time but what is most interesting is fashion's love of rap music at the moment. Minaj has appeared on the cover of leading fashion titles like Wonderland and W and performed at the Versace for H&M party last year. As you'll recall, Banks was invited to perform at Karl Lagerfeld's Paris apartment after the Chanel couture show last season and at Kanye West's A/W12 after show party.

Would you have preferred Minaj over Banks?

Azealia Banks Will Attend The Met Ball With Alexander Wang

The Met Ball is just over a week away and finally the designer-celebrity paring confirmations are beginning to pick up pace. So far we know that Isabel Lucas will attend with the Proenza Schouler boys and as you'll recall, Lana Del Rey's partnership with Joseph Altuzarra came as a bit of a surprise. Azealia Banks and Alexander Wang, on the other hand, is a pairing that makes sense.

Banks confirmed the news on Twitter saying: 'I can't wait for the MET ball! I'm going as Alexander Wang's date. He custom made my outfit and shoes!!!! It's so hot!' And if that gets you excited, there's more good news as the Harlem based rapper will also perform at some stage during the event. 'I've been invited to perform for PRADA next week in NYC! Gonna b so lush!! Let's see what new songs I debut there! #metball2012'

Get Excited: The 2012 Met Gala Will Be Livestreamed

If there's one red carpet event worth getting excited for each year, it's the Met Ball. This year is even more interesting because like the Oscars, you'll be able to see all of the outfits as they hit the red carpet because for the first time, the arrivals and special moments from the gala will be livestreamed.

Rather than opting for a celebrity host, the organisers have bagged Elettra Widemann and ex-Vogue contributing editor William Norwich to talk to designers and find out what everyone is wearing. On top of that, the duo will also interview Carey Muligan, who has come on board this year as a co-chair, along with Miuccia Prada and Anna Wintour. The livestream will run from 6:30 to 8:30pm EST on Vogue.com, Amazon.com and Metmuseum.org.

Will you tune in?

Proenza Schouler And Altuzarra Have Confirmed Their Met Gala Celebrity Dates

The Met Ball is in a matter of weeks so you know what that means - all of the speculation and reports officially begin now. The event has always been one of my favourites. The red carpet looks always exceed anything we've seen at any of the other big red carpet events but more than anything, it's the designer-celebrity partnership that gets me excited.

At this stage each year we all begin to question which star will team up with which designer and the first confirmations are in. Joseph Altuzarra is dressing Lana Del Rey and Proenza Schouler's Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez have confirmed that they will dress and attend the event with actress Isabel Lucas. Del Rey isn't an obvious paring for Altuzarra but I'm interested to see what he creates for her and Lucas will undoubtedly be a great clothes horse for Proenza.

Jennifer Lopez To Perform At The Met Gala?

This month Jennifer Lopez's cover for US Vogue's annual shape issue dropped and if the rumours are anything to go by, she's working with Anna Wintour on another project.

This morning reports alleged that Wintour has secured the singer to perform at this year's Met Gala. If there reports are true, Lopez will follow in the footsteps of Florence and the Machine who performed last year and Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Kanye West who have also been asked to perform. The reports do come as a bit of a surprise. Adele has had a long relationship with the editor so many tipped her to perform at the big even on May 7.

Do you want Jennifer Lopez to be this year's entertainment of choice?
