You can always expect a bit of a spectacle at a Zac Posen show; after all, the pieces are made for the red carpet, but this season the spectacle wasn't just about the clothes. Naomi Campbell made a surprise appearance on the runway to open the show joined by Coco Rocha and Karolina Kurkova.
Rocha is a firm fixture on the Posen model line-up but her appearance came as a surprise as it was only last week that she said that she was taking this season off to focus on filming The Face. The fact that all three model judges walked in the show suggests that Posen may be involved in some way.
Are you excited for The Face to air and will you tune in?
Cycle 19 of the America's Next Top Model is just around the corner and the press-ready stories are still coming in thick and fast. As you'll recall, in the midst of the attention surrounding Naomi Campbell's new show recently, Tyra Banks decided to sit down with the Post telling them that she nearly walked away from the show and now, on cue, another ANTM story has been emerged.
Talking to the Hollywood Reporter, Banks said that she got a call from her bosses at CW while she was in class at Harvard telling her to shake-up the show's line-up. 'I got a note that said you need to get out of class and take this call,' she told Page Six. 'My boss said...there are no sacred cows, and you have to do some crazy changes. It was a mandate.'
Georgia May Jagger, Kate Moss, Lily Donaldson and Naomi Campbell
Yesterday we finally saw the likes of Stella Tennant, Kate Moss and Jourdan Dunn hit the runway at the closing ceremony wearing British designers like Victoria Beckham and Alexander McQueen but the party started before the event.
Ahead of the festivities Naomi Campbell hosted a party in the capital to mark the Olympics but also for her Fashion for Relief charity. As you would expect, the party was full of fashion folk like Vivienne Westwood and Ozwald Boateng but Campbell did actually invite some athletes so British cyclist Dani King was there along, who naturally turned up sporting her gold medal.
America's Next Top Model is about to hit the air and with Naomi Campbell's show launching later this month, the big ANTM press push is on. Last week Tyra sat down with Page Six, where she revealed that she almost walked away from the show and yesterday more news was revealed about who we can expect to see in the guest judge seat.
According to Essence, Alicia Keys and Tyler Perry have both filmed appearances as mentors on the show's nineteenth cycle. As yet, Key's role is still unclear but what we do know is that Perry directed the girls in their acting challenge. I haven't watched the show for years but with the new mentors, judges and the pressure on the show to up the ante, I'm slowly being convinced.
Kate Moss' upcoming book might not be a tell-all, by Premier Model Management founder Carole White's new book will be. Today, White confirmed that she's working on a memoir detailing her experiences in the industry from her model days to founding the agency with brother Chris in 1981 and looking after the likes of Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell.
'Having worked in the fashion industry for over 40 years, and managed the careers of the supermodels at the height of their fame, I am forever being asked questions by the press and public alike about the modelling world,' she told Vogue. 'Compiling a book of my memories - both good and bad - just seemed to be the next transition and I would love to share and give people an insight into the industry I love.'
For a while now we've known that Kate Moss will take part in the closing ceremony alongside other big British models like Naomi Campbell and Stella Tennant but even now, it's still unclear what, or who, they will down the runway. The latest issue of Vogue might reveal a clue.
To mark the event and in collaboration with the British Fashion Council, Vogue commissioned Nick Knight to shoot all of the models involved wearing British designers, leading people to speculate that the girls will wear the same brands for the closing event as they wear in the shoot.
In the issue Moss appears wearing a gold encrusted dress by Sarah Burton, as does Campbell, while Stella Tennant appears in Christopher Kane, Lily Cole and Donaldson in Erdem and Vivienne Westwood respectively, Georgia May Jagger in Victoria Beckham and Jourdan Dunn in Jonathan Saunders. I think it's safe to assume that they won't wear the same things but I'm sure the brand choice will be the same.
With all the attention on Naomi Campbell's new modelling show, 'The Face', it was only a matter of time before 'America's Next Top Model' did something to try and compete for press attention.
So on a cue, Tyra Banks sat down with the Post revealing that she almost walked away from the show. 'I've thought about turning the reigns over [at Top Model]. I had to be reminded that [the show] is my baby,' she said. 'A few years ago, I was willing to give my baby up for adoption!' While I'm a big a fan of Tyra as the next person, how and why this needed to be released leaves question marks. The only good thing about the competition between the two shoes, though, is that hopefully they'll have to up the ante.
Will you tune into The Face when it airs on August 24?
For the longest time Tyra Banks has dominated the modelling reality show scene but it seems like that's about to change as we prepare for new rival show, The Face, to drop.
Despite the fact that Naomi Campbell has been enlisted to front the show, the response to the news was lukewarm and it's not difficult to understand why. America's Next Top Model's viewing numbers continue to flail behind the huge numbers that it used to draw in, suggesting that we're all over that show format. For The Face, then, it was important for them to introduce something new in order to get us watching and that's exactly what they've done.
Last week bosses announced that Karolina Kurkova and Coco Rocha have both signed on to join Naomi Campbell on the judging panel. Rather than simply judging the girls photographs at the end of each challenge, each judge will be given their own group of models to mentor and guide through the various challenges and projects throughout the course of the show.
With the Olympics just around the corner, the details of the closing ceremony have finally been released and as expected, fashion is set to play a prominent role in the festivities.
Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Stella Tennant, Lily Cole and Lily Donaldson will walk the runway as David Bowie performs songs 'Fashion' and 'Rebel Rebel'. Georgia May Jagger will also walk in the show as a replacement for Rosie Huntington-Whiteley who dropped out of the show as a part of her efforts to be seen as an actress rather than a model.
Back in May Oxygen confirmed that they had bagged Naomi Campbell as a mentor on their new model competition, The Face, and with the open calls in New York and L.A. coming up soon, they've started to give the show a big push.
Talking about what she's looking for from the open calls, Campbell said:
I'm looking for contestants who have the whole package — a beautiful face; healthy, toned body; unique look; interesting personality; confidence; and, above all, strong work ethic and drive. ... Most importantly, I'm looking for a model with a fearless spirit who can completely transform like a chameleon, and take you on a unique journey that makes you believe that even the impossible is possible.
