I'm a big fan of Jessie J and not just because of her undeniable music abilities. Like other female artists like Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj, fashion is extrinsically linked to everything she does so it's hardly surprising that she's been chosen to front Henry Holland's Pretty Polly collection.
While I'm not always a fan of the designer's RTW collections, his hosiery collections are always spot on and the partnership makes sense. Rather than just going down the usual endorsement route matching a celebrity that has no baring on the subject matter, here the collaboration really works, as the singer is known for sporting statement patterned tights. "She’s got awesome style, but her attitude as well as her persona make a terrific choice for our collection," David Hinchliffe, Pretty Polly's brand director, said. "The campaign is all about how our tights make a girl feel, it’s about empowering a girl when she’s wearing our products and recognizing the effect she will have on the people around her."
If like us you couldn't get enough of Henry Holland's Fall collection for hosiery specialist Pretty Polly, then you're in luck. The young British designer - who shot to fame with his witty slogan tees - took inspiration from the current trend for lace for his Spring Summer range, which is set to sell out as quick as you can say Wanna Party?
Following on from his quirky A/W collection, Holland has designed lace panelled tights, footless lace tights, contrast house print tights and a lace bodysuit, available in pink, lilac, black and nude and starting from just £12. The range, which was spotted on the catwalk of SS10 London Fashion Week is bound to be a hit - Agyness and Pixie have already been spotted sporting the lace line, so we wonder which pair Fearne Cotton will be favouring come this Summer...
Henry Holland is fast becoming a national treasure. With the success of his House of Holland label and his tights collection for Pretty Polly, we were a little surprised to hear that the 25 year old Manchester born whiz-kid has his sights set on settling in New York. "I want to move to here. Every time I come, the need to live here becomes more and more urgent and I want to go home less and less. I spend my entire time here plotting about how I would do it."
Not to worry though because although Holland plans to move his life there, he has no intention of moving his label with him. He has confirmed that "I would still show in London. I don't think anyone else has done that-lived here and shown in London...... I feel like what I do is very London, the essence of my brand is very London. It's in its DNA, so it would be weird to move it."
British hosiery brand Pretty Polly announced last Thursday that it has enlisted the help of '80s t-shirt legend Henry Holland. The cutting-edge tights collection, launched exclusively in Selfridges on Thursday 13th August, is expected to set hosiery trends this autumn.
Featuring everything from colourful prints through to suspender effects and block stripes, the tights have already become a firm favourite with personal friend Agyness Deyn. "I feel like I have found my calling with this leg wear range. I am now in love with all things hosiery," Holland said.
