Knight Talks About His 100 Portraits Project And ‘Nick Knight’ The Book

Having popped straight over from his exhibition ‘Showstudio: Fashion Revolution’ at Somerset House on Wednesday night, where he’d just shot Kate Moss as part of his 100 Portraits project for i-D magazine, Nick Knight was in demand yet again. We found him in Selfridges’ 3rd Central space signing copies of his new eponymous book, ‘Nick Knight’, which features a collection of his most stunning and iconic images, as well as previously unpublished shots, stills from his video work, and imagery developed for SHOWstudio.

“It's like any other editing process - you end up pinning everything around the wall. It's comparative,” Knight told Vogue, explaining the book’s evolution. “The tricky thing is finding a purpose for the book. It needs a story. There were certain things I wanted to say. It started out as 10 chapters - well really it started out as 10 books. I looked at it like an exhibition and a series of rooms.”

Grazia were also at the signing and asked Knight about the set-up for his 100 Portraits project: “I wanted to present it in that kind of gallery context, so I’ve taken the fashion photographer’s studio and made it into an exhibit, by having one of the walls as a two way mirror wall so the public can actually come right up to it and see it just as an exhibit. So the whole process of a taking a fashion photograph can become an exhibit in itself,” Knight responded.

This week The Fash Pack caught up with one of London's leading PRs, George MacPherson from Starworks. In the interview, MacPherson talks about the stresses and strains of fashion week and how it feels the moment American Vogue confirm that Anna Winour is attending a show.

The Fashion Pack: How does your job change during the fashion week season?

George MacPherson: My emails seem to double or treble. I get a crick in my neck from holding my phone on my shoulder so I can talk whilst typing and I only seem to eat food from the Wasabi Japanese place, which is literally underneath our building. I try to get all the usual stuff out of the way early in the month- reports, meetings etc, and then concentrate on the shows and designers who are participating.
