You may know Sasha Pivovarova as a big supermodel but there's more to the Russian model than meets the eye. Alongside her successful modelling career, she continues to be recognised for her work as a painter and she's just about to show the world her acting skills in her debut film, 'In Time', alongside Justin Timberlake.
Not content with all of that, Gap have just released a selection of image from a collection of sleepwear and lingerie she reportedly design for them. The collection is small consisting of only six pieces including an underwear set and night dress, all inspired by fairy tales and incorporating some of her artwork.
For some reason excitement for the Versace-H&M partnership was slow but with only a month to go, anticipation is starting to build up especially since these images from the campaign were revealed.
The line-up isn't surprising. Versace favourites Abbey Lee Kershaw, Sasha Pivovarova, Lindsey Wixson and Daphne Groeneveld all appear with bright blonde hair styled by Joe McKenna and shot by Mert & Marcus.
Sasha Pivovarova and Miuccia Prada are a match made in heaven. The Russian model served as the face of Prada from A/W05 until S/S08 before the pair she was replaced by Linda Evangelista, but they're back together again for Miu Miu. Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot shot the model for the brand's latest campaign. But she's not alone. Kaisa Struss and Querelle Jansen both appear in the campaign alonside her.
The last seasons saw Lara Stone dominate the leading ad campaigns. After replacing Madonna at Louis Vuitton, Stone went on to replace Sasha Pivovarova at both Prada and Armani. But it looks liker her campaign zeal is slowing down. This week, word broke that Natalia Vodianova and Christy Turlington are set to repace the Dutch model.
Many are surprised by the rumour after we all expected Adriana Lima, Elle Macpherson or Bar Refaeli - who all walked in the Spring/Summer 2010 show - to appear in the campaign.
The Spring/Summer issue of i-D, out tomorrow, is set to be a treat. As we reported yesterday, Sasha Pivovarova, Natalia Vodianova and Freja Beha Erichsen have all been shot for the issue's different covers. If that wasn't enough, Dree Hemingway styles herself in a 'Home Is Where The Heart Is' inspired shoot allegedly shot at her grandfather Ernest Hemingway's home.
The magazine has more exciting news as they announced that their website is set for a redesign, which will be unveiled in May.
Calling Milan Fashion Week's top model is a hard task. The likes of Freja Beha Erichsen, Natasha Poly and Anja Rubik - all well established names on the runway - dominate many of the big shows, so it might feel a little intimidating for the new girls on the block. Add Karmen Kass, Pixie Geldof (yes, really), Abbey Lee and Sasha Pivovarova to the mix, and it's easy to see why it might be hard for them to get a look in.
That said, one of the biggest shows in Milan opened with an Omaha native. Russell Marsh, casting director forPrada, appointed newbie Samantha Gradoville to both open and close the AW10 show, which becomes even more impressive after learning that it is actually Gradoville's first season in Milan. So we've spotted the ones to watch for London and Milan, now comes Paris...
The recent snowstorm proves that the weather affects models, too. Next Models threw a bash at Avenue in Chelsea earlier this week, and as expected, the likes of Karlie Kloss and Sasha Pivovarova were in attendance - though other colleagues of theirs were not so fortunate. Newly-engaged Catherine McNeil was 'snowed-in' in Vancouver when her flight to New York was cancelled. She had touched down to celebrate the Winter Olympics, which begin today, when her flight failed to take off. It's unclear whether she will make any of New York Fashion Week.
Not all guests were in the party mood. Kloss made an early exit (before 9pm) probably due to exhaustion, since she had been shooting 'for a major magazine' on various locations around the Big Apple, in nothing more than a bikini. Watch this space.
