Last night the CFDA Awards, the Oscars of the fashion world, took place and in New York at Alice Tully Hall and the winners are in. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen took away the big womenswear designer of the year award for The Row, Joseph Altuzarra won the Swarovski Award for womenswear and Phillip Lim for menswear and Tommy Hilfiger was awarded the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award.
Simon Spurr didn't end up winning the menswear designer of the year award, which was just as well considering all of the controversy surrounding his departure from his namesake line.
When Bar Refaeli recently confirmed that she has a underwear line in the works, it made sense. After all, Leonardo Di Caprio's former flame has made a career out of posing in swimwear and lingerie so likeSelita Ebanks, it was only a matter of time before she decided to cash in on it.
Her under.me line has officially launched this week and to celebrate, the model released a short of video of herself sporting pieces for the collection while playing tennis. Whether the video was aimed at showing just how comfortable the line is, something she has focused on in plugging the line, or whether it was just one for the boys, I'm not sure.
'My underwear is the clothing article closest to my body, and as such, I want it to complement it and not steal the show. There is nothing better than simple, comfortable, quality clothing,' she wrote on the brand's website. 'My work means I’m travelling all the time, rushing from city to city and wearing the most incredible, elaborate designs. I love it, but on my downtime I just want to relax and be myself...I don’t want my clothes to define me. And that’s the idea behind under.me – a focused collection of beautifully-made basics that look good and feel amazing. That’s all I need.'
Selita Ebanks has long served as a lingerie and swimwear model so it was not a surprise when she recently confirmed that she is working on her own swimwear line.
The model's first collection - which she said includes 'some pieces [that] are just thin links of chains that require something [to be] worn underneath' - will be unveiled tomorrow night on BET's 'Rip The Runway'. The collection, called Sass by Selita, will be available this fall with shoes and accessories to follow.
A piece of advice from Selita Ebanks: never let a snowstorm affect your sartorial decisions, espeically when you're meeting Anna Wintour. The model revealed to MTV that after shooting her first cover for Teen Vogue, her agency suggested that she met Vogue's editor-in-chief. But a snowstorm that happened on the same day as her meeting ruined things for the then 17 year-old.
"What I’m wearing is the issue," she said about arriving at the magazine that day. "I had on Timberland boots, I had on corduroy, high-water, flooded beige pants with a button-down plaid shirt. I was a tomboy!" And it gets worse. "I remember walking in — Trudy from Vogue at the time...looks at me and she’s like startled. And I didn’t understand why. I was like, 'What up? Who am I here to meet?' She says, 'Take off your jacket, take off your jacket, it’ll be fine, it’ll be fine — be yourself.' And I walk into the office, I got maybe two steps into the room, and I look and it's amazing Ms. Anna Wintour. She goes [makes a dismissive wave] and dismisses me. And my cover did not come out to say the least and I have never shot Vogue magazine!"
Selita Ebanks wore this silver metallic Calvin Klein dress to attend the premiere of 'Runaway' - the new film directed by Kanye West in which the model appears. To top it off, she added strong red lips and cat eyes.
