To say that the pressure is on for AnnaSophia Robb would be an understatement. Earlier on this year the 19 year-old was confirmed as the person to play the young Carrie Bradshaw in the 'The Carrie Diaries', the prequel to 'Sex And The City'. On the one hand the role is step in the right direction for Robb, which is apparent from all the brands and press currently courting her, but on the flip side expectations are high.
The trailer, which dropped last month, went along way in dispelling the critics but talking to Fashionista last week, she made it clear that she knows that she has big shoes to fill.
'I'm really excited. It's a bit nerve wracking but I think it will be a great show,' she said when asked about being involved with the show. 'We have a great cast and great writers and the fashion's going to be amazing but it will definitely have a different flavour than the original 'Sex and the City' because it's for a younger audience. But I really hope to make 'Carrie Diaries' the 'Sex and the City' of my generation.'
When it was announced that the team behind 'Gossip Girl' would bring 'The Carrie Diaries' to the small screen, I was amongst those that were cynical. Prequels and sequels don't tend to go down particularly well but this one is shaping up to be an exception to the rule.
First up were the images of the costumes. 'Sex and the City' is known for the clothes so the fact that Eric Daman did such a good job with those promo shots helped get everyone interested. Now that the trailer has dropped, it looks like the show is going to go down well when it hits screens in January just in time to fill the 'Gossip Girl' hole.
When it was announced that 'The Carrie Diaries', the prequel to 'Sex and the City' was definitely going to go ahead, I must admit that I was dubious. These things never seem to have quite the same effect as the original and often fail to live up to the hype and expectation that naturally comes along with such news. To say then that AnnaSophia Robb has a big task on her hands then as she gears up to play the young Carrie Bradshaw in the series, is quite the understatement.
But this image slightly subdues by fears. Whether it's the big hair or the sequins, the styling definitely seems to play true to the character which undoubtedly could have ruined it had they got it wrong. Even Sarah Jessica Parker has given the young actress the seal of approval. 'She sent me a letter! I wrote her one back, too,' Robb told Us Weekly. 'She was just very encouraging about it all. It was really cool!'
Despite coming to an end in 2004, it looks like 'Sex and the City' may return to the small screen very soon, or at least before the planned movie based on the charaters' younger selves allegedly starring Elizabeth Olsen and Blake Lively.
After parting ways with Halston, Sarah Jessica Parker is siad to be throwing herself into producing the show. and getting it ready for the premiere. Although the news is yet to be confirmed, Fashionista report that the Los Angeles times sounded certain when they reported that the prequel will definitely go ahead with HBO.
The second movie didn't get the best reviews as many felt that the success of the show was based on it being on the small screen, so the news will come as a welcomed surprise, especially since the emphasis recently has been on rumours that a thrid movie is in the works.
We've all read Sarah Jessica Parker's cover story in August issue of Vogue but not many picked up the confirmation that the 'Sex and The City' star has parted ways from Halston Heritage after joining the brand in January last year. 'When Sex and the City, to her own surprise, made her a fashion star, she launched her own design label and perfumes, as well as signing on to run the Halston Heritage label, a relationship that recently came to an end,' the article reads.
The article doesn't explain why or how the split happened but many are speculating that it is due to the brand's former CEO Bonnie Takhar being let go last year because the pair were good friends. As yet, neither party have commented on the split.
UPDATE: WWD reports that the The Weinstein Company who acquired the brand in 2007 is also looking to part ways with the brand. An official announcement is expected from Harvey Weinstein today.
Sounds crazy, right? But rumour has it that the 'Sex and the City' prequel will not include Sarah Jessica Parker in the lineup. Big Hollywood bosses allegedly have their eyes set on Blake Lively to play Carrie in the production of 'The Carrie Diaries', which is based on Bradshaw's life pre-New York. We're convinced that it could actually work. What do you think?
After playing raunchy Samantha Jones for six seasons and two films, it would be hard to imagine that SATC starlet Kim Cattrall could get any sexier, however the actress showed up in Tokyo for the film's Japanese premiere sporting a new blunt bob - and we think her sex appeal just upped it's ante.
The change comes just days after Cattrall was promoting the latest SATC film in New York with a side swept lock of ringlets, and she isn't the only actress from the series to be experimenting with her hair. While Samantha might have gone for the chop, Miranda Hobbs, otherwise known as Cynthia Nixon showed up to the London premiere with considerably longer locks, adding red extensions to her usually short do.
Sarah Jessica Parker added a nice edge to her airport look by adding these suede Nicholas Kirkwood heels to arrive in Japan for the film's latest premiere.
