The Adidas By Stella McCartney Villagewear Collection Has Dropped

The big reveal of the Team GB kit back in March isn't the only big collection launch that Stella McCartney and Adidas are working on. This week the sports brand announced the launch of the official British villagewear collection.

Unlike the main kit, the village wear range is geared at catering to the needs of the athletes when they are not competing so all of the pieces are relaxed and comfortable, whilst also playing with bright colours to keep things interesting. 'The inspiration for the villagewear collection was to create a more relaxed kit that remained stylish yet comfortable for the athletes,' McCartney said in a statement. 'It was also important to unify the team, as the one piece of information hat really stuc with me when I talked to the athletes aout this project, was how they want to feel as a team in the village, to feel like they are one voice and one nation.'

Zooey Deschanel Is The New Face Of Pantene

Last month Pantene announced that they are working with TeamGB track cyclist Victoria Pendleton but she's not the only person the brand are partnering with. Yesterday they revealed that Zooey Deschanel is their new face.

Deschanel, who follows in the footsteps of stars like Eva Mendes and Naomi Watts, is the fact of their Beautiful Lengths Collection, which will drop this August on print, online and on TV. 'I am so excited to be a part of the Pantene family,' she said in a release. 'Anyone who knows me knows that I am really into hair. I'm a real girly girl and love doing my hair and experimenting with different styles.'

With less than 100 days until London hosts the 2012 Olympics, all eyes are on TeamGB girls and not just in the way you would expect. Over the last few weeks, four key members of the team have been announced as the face of various beauty brands.

Last week Pantene announced that they have brought track cyclist Victoria Pendleton on board as the face of their latest beauty campaign; a move which is part of Proctor & Gamble's (their parent company) worldwide Olympic partner status with the London games. 'It makes so much sense to me that a female athlete would be a beauty ambassador,' Pendleton said in a statement. 'Part of being beautiful is being healthy, but I don't think people realize when they look at us that we want to be healthy from head to toe and that includes having healthy, beautiful hair.' This is particularly special for Pantene as the partnership marks the first time they have partnered with an athlete in this way and will see Pendleton join the likes of Liv Tyler as one of thir brand ambassadors.

Stella McCartney Comments On The Criticisms Of The TeamGB Kit

Critics were always going to find something wrong with Stella McCartney's TeamGB designs and yesterday the focus of the attention sadly shifted away from the great feeling of the event and the excitement about the upcoming event and instead onto the colour combination.

In the flag, which McCartney said was the starting point for the collection, the red in the Union Jack was replaced with turquoise and instead, the colour appeared along the collars and cuffs of tops as well as on socks and shoes. Even a university professor from Durham weighed in on the issue telling Reuters that scientists have long shown that athletes perform better in red colours arguing that the predominance of blue could work against the team.

McCartney used her Twitter page to respond to the critics this morning saying: 'I see many feel as strongly about the Union flag as I do! The design actually uses more red & shows more flag than any Team GB kit since '84.'

While sportswear was the big buzz word at the shows last season, quality practical sportswear is something has been largely ignored by fashion brands. Even with sports companies, womenswear collections have always seemed to be an after thought to menswear lines. It is for that exact reason that Stella McCartney's eight year collaboration with Adidas has been so special. "I've always thought that women shouldn't have to sacrifice style for sport," she said.

And that sentiment runs through to her 'My2012' collection, her most recent project for the brand. Last week I was amongst a handful of journalists that were invited to talk to the desgner as she launched the campaign at London's Selfridges. Like her other Adidas collections, the line includes pieces that you would actually want to be seen wearing, which is a far cry from the free Vogue t-shirts that McCartney said has unfortunately become the piece that women rely on when going to the gym. "I always used to get really embrassed about people seeing me in my gym wear," she said jokingly. "So with these collections I got really excited about educating women about what they can work out in."
