Critics were always going to find something wrong with Stella McCartney's TeamGB designs and yesterday the focus of the attention sadly shifted away from the great feeling of the event and the excitement about the upcoming event and instead onto the colour combination.
In the flag, which McCartney said was the starting point for the collection, the red in the Union Jack was replaced with turquoise and instead, the colour appeared along the collars and cuffs of tops as well as on socks and shoes. Even a university professor from Durham weighed in on the issue telling Reuters that scientists have long shown that athletes perform better in red colours arguing that the predominance of blue could work against the team.
McCartney used her Twitter page to respond to the critics this morning saying: 'I see many feel as strongly about the Union flag as I do! The design actually uses more red & shows more flag than any Team GB kit since '84.'
Carine Roitfeld is set to be a very stylish grandma as recent reports allege that Julia Restoin Roitfeld is three months pregnant with her first child with model boyfriend, Robert Konjic.
Yesterday Derek Blasberg confirmed the news on Twitter saying: 'Congrats to lovely @RestoinRJulia! She just told me she's going to be a mother... Which makes Carine Roitfeld the world's sexiest grannie?' I know we have baby Beyonce and Jay Z on the way but baby Restoin-Roitfeld definitely has me more excited. The style possibilities are endless and hopefully we'll have a baby debut on the front row at fashion week.
Anyone that follows DKNY PR girl on Twitter will know that Donna Karan is currently in Haiti. The designer has chosen the country as the backdrop for the S/S12 Donna Karan campaign, which makes sense considering that it was the main source of inspiration for the collection.
Just to get you excited about the big reveal, enjoy these behind-the-scenes images from the campaign shoot starring Adriana Lima.
You must have been living under a rock over the past two years if you're unfamiliar with the DKNY PR girl, the Twitter and Tumblr voice of the American brand. When it comes to brands utilising social media, along with Oscar PR girl, there doesn't get much better and if you haven't been charmed by her already, you definitely will do after watching this short video.
Since she started tweeting only those in the industry knew who she was but this week the company released a clip revealing her true identity. Earlier this week we reported that former Vogue senior accessories editor, Filipa Fino, had left the magazine for alleged misconduct. Yesterday she used an interview to refute rumours that she had stolen samples from the accessories closet. "I've never kept anything that wasn't gifted to me," she explained and when asked whether she was fired she made it clear that, "Those are all rumors."
Despite the controversy, Fino is already onto her next venture. "Can’t believe attn I’m getting! lol After 11 years I’m flying solo. So excited about new co FFConsulting. Stay tuned. In today's digital age it's hard to find a brand that doesn't have a social media presence. Burberry continue to pioneer with all things live streaming and DKNY and Oscar de la Renta are well known for their Twitter accounts but Vera Wang is leading the pack in the Facebook stakes. According to data compiled by Stylophane, the brand updates their page more than any other and has 136 updates in May alone. BCBG came second with 111 times and Dolce & Gabbana coming third with 81.
Just in case you aren't aware, the official Marc Jacobs twitter (@MarcJacobsIntl) got very interesting on Friday night. In the process of looking for an employee dedicated to managing the brand's Twitter account replacing CEO Robert Duffy, an intern was asked to take over in the interim and went to town with it.
The first post came at mignight, reading: 'You guys and gals have no idea how difficult Robert is. I am only an intern. My last day is tomorrow. I wouldn't be tweeting this if not!' Another said: 'Good luck! I pray for you all. If you get the job! I'm out of here. See ya! Don't want to be ya! Roberts a tyrant! Seriously! He is tough!' another read. But it didn't end there. 'I can call him out! I'm out! Won't work in this town again! I know that! Learned a lot. But, I don't have the energy for what is expected!' it continued. 'Signing off, he added: 'Yea, walk in my MJ shoes! Don't judge me! I'm alone in this office having to try and entertain you all. This isn't easy. I have tried. Done!' As you would expect, the tweets were deleted shortly afterwards.
So what do you think? Was this as bad as it seems or merely a PR stunt?
