Fashion week comes to an end today and while I'm looking forward to go back to a semblance of normality, admittedly, come Thursday I'll be missing the constant stream of updates and shows but thankfully Victoria's Secrethas come to the rescue.
Yesterday it confirmed that their annual runway show will hit the small screen on December 4, which means that the coming weeks will be full of speculation about the line, the outfits and naturally, the girls fitness routines. Just to get you excited, it also confirmed that this year's performers will be Rihanna, Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars.
We've been talking about it for months and now the day is officially here. Victoria's Secret have finally opened the doors to their flagship UK store this morning on London's Bond Street and by the sounds of it, the store was definitely worth the wait.
As you would expect, the space has been given the full Victoria's Secret treatment with the décor tapping into the glitzy boudoir feeling that the lingerie has become known for. The 40,386 sq ft space also features everything the brand has to offer under one roof so expect to see everything from their full fragrance range and signature lingerie pieces to their younger Pink line collection and loungewear line. And just to make sure you're sorted any time of day, the store will be open until 9pm every weekday with a made to measure service on hand too.
Victoria's Secret is located at 111 New Bond Street, W1S 1DP
Victoria's Secret recently opened the doors to their Stratford store with no problems but this week, reports emerged that the opening of their highly anticipated Bond Street store might not be so easy.
During the week the Evening Standard ran a piece reporting that British department store Fenwick, which sits opposite where the new store will be, are allegedly 'concerned about the potential provocative window displays and the kind of shoppers it will attract.'
While the reports sound far fetched, there's no denying that us Brits are known for being on the prudish side especially in comparison to our European counterparts but according to reports today, the allegations are false. 'We welcome any new retailer who brings a new customer to Bond Street,' the retailer told Vogue UK in a statement.
Miranda Kerr has never done too badly when it comes to her modelling career but it's over the last few years that we have really seen her career catapult in fashion circles. Like Joan Smalls, her career before was mainly commercial but recently things have really changed for her. Aside from her role as a Victoria's Secret Angel, Kerr has walked for everyone from Prada to Balenciaga and has appeared in magazines like Harper's Bazaar and Vogue Italia.
Ironically, though, all of the changes took place after she found out she was pregnant. 'At the moment I'm trying to do 60/40 - I spend most of my time at home being a mother and only work on jobs that I really love and with brands that I really want to work with,' she told Vogue.com when asked about the pressures. 'I've cut back quite a bit because especially the travelling can be too much and my son is obviously my number one priority. It's working out well at the moment because I'm doing fun jobs here and there and getting to spend lots of time with my boys.'
We all watch their annual runway shows but for a long time, Victoria's Secret has been out of reach to anyone out of America but that's all about to change. This morning the lingerie brand confirmed that they are expanding to London this year.
On July 25 they will open the doors to their first store in London, which will serve as their flagship. The store, which will stock everything from boy shorts to bikinis, will be based on the corner of New Bond Street and Brook street - and that's not all. The very next day will see the opening of another store in Westfield Stratford City, the day before the big opening ceremony for the 2012 London Olympics. To celebrate both openings, a big runway show will take place where Angels like Karlie Kloss and Miranda Kerr are set to appear.
I must confess, while I've always tuned in to watch the Victoria's Secret shows, I was amongst the cynics on the critical side when the Angels started moving into high fashion. With that said, it would be far fetched to say that I saw any of them as a source of style inspiration. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against any of the Angels. When it comes to schmizing (a la Tyra Banks) and looking incredible in a swimsuit of ridiculously expensive underwear, nobody does it better, but the commerciality of the whole thing isn't something that I've ever been particularly drawn too. Over the past year, though, Miranda Kerrhas really evolved and come into her own style wise.
Gone are the days when she appears wearing something that you would imagine US Weekly favourites like Jessica Simpson wearing and instead, over the last year her style has come on leaps and bounds and now inspires wardrobes much in the same way as people like Kate Bosworth do. Admittedly her outfits work well on her model-like frame but there's no denying that her new look works. She carries off simple shorts and jeans teamed with classic blazers and blouses with ease, epitomising the model-off-duty that none of us can seem to get enough of.
So what do you think? Is Miranda Ker's new look rocking your boat?
Yesterday Victoria's Secrets confirmed that their line-up of Angels is expanding and considering all of the pregnancies amongst their major stars like Alessandra Ambrosio and Adriana Lima, it comes at no surprise. The luck girl joining the impressive rooster is German model, Toni Garrn.
Even if you're not familiar with her name you have definitely seen her face. Her career started with a bang after bagging a worldwide exclusive with Calvin Klein and ever since she has walked for everyone from Prada to Jil Stuart and everyone in between as well as catalogues for retailers like H&M. Despite having such high profile fashion jobs in the past becoming a Victoria's Secret spokesperson deal is a big gig for any model.
There must be something in the water at Victoria's Secret headquarters. While most mums take a while to get their post-baby bodies back and don't even think about going back to work, the opposite is true for the Angels. Heidi Klum was the first to start it off as she was back to work and walked in the Victoria's Secret show weeks after giving birth and the same was true for Adriana Lima, Doutzen Kroes and Miranda Kerr.
This week heavily pregnant Alessandra Ambrosio made it clear that she too has no plans of slowing down. 'I already have jobs planned for afterwards so hopefully will be back in shape! I told my booker and my manager; 'I know I have a job to do, so just book the jobs and hopefully it'll be fine,' she told Vogue.com. 'I only have a few more jobs to do before I have the baby — all editorial, no more catwalk now — and then I hope to be back in London for the opening of the Victoria's Secret store in July. I should definitely be back for the next Victoria's Secret show — I have quite a while until then.'
I am just about the only person that hasn't fallen in love with the Carine Roitfeld-styled Jennifer Lopez cover for V magazine, but this editorial featuring Adriana Lima and Doutzen Kroes in the sports themed issue definitely makes up for it. The Victoria's Secret models show off their enviable post-baby bodies in the Mario Testino-shot editorial wearing lingerie pieces styled by Nicola Formichetti.
The Victoria's Secret celebrations aren't over just yet. Last night the lingerie brand hosted a viewing party for their recent 2011 show and as you would expect, Angels Miranda Kerr, Alessandra Ambrosia and Lily Aldridge and were in attendance blowing kisses and striking a pose - the usual.
