Anja Rubik Sports Hedi Slimane's Collection On The Saint Laurent Website

It's all systems go at Saint Laurent at the moment. It was only a week ago that Hedi Slimane showed his first women's wear collection at the house and already, images of Anja Rubik wearing the collection have been uploaded onto the label's recently revamped website.

The images are good and were no doubt shot by Slimane in their headquarters, leading many to believe that the images will form the brand's S/S13 campaign but I'm not convinced. On the whole, the PR team has been pretty tight lipped about the brand's plans moving forward, besides, of course, the new name change, so I can't imagine that they would release the campaigns so soon.

What do you think of the images?

Quote Me: Don't Expect Tom Ford To Design For A Fashion House Again

I learned a tremendous amount from my time at Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent, but I was always designing within an existing framework. In launching my own line, I am allowed to only create products that I believe in. Everything at Tom Ford is steeped in my DNA — it would be a step backwards for me now to go and design for another fashion house.

Stefano Pilati Named Creative Director Of Two Italian Brands

Stefano Pilati's departure from Yves Saint Laurent after 10 years at the helm of the brand was dramatic to say the least. Since the news broke, reports quickly began to emerge that he was quietly working at Armani under the premise that he would take over the brand as and when the designer chooses to retire. Just as we thought though, the reports are untrue because Pilati has in fact bagged a job not one but two big roles

The 47 year-old will serve as the creative director of women's wear brand Agnona and will also head up Ermenegildo Zegna, designing for the brand's couture collection along with ready-to-wear. 'I'm thrilled to have Stefano in our Group as he brings great talent, invaluable experience and enormous enthusiasm,' Zenga Group CEO Gildo Zenga said in a statement. 'We have ambitious plans for Agnona, and we strongly believe that under his creative leadership we will be able to develop this little jewel into a global brand.'

Rate or Slate: Chloë Sevigny Took A Step Forward In Versace Jeans Couture

Chloë Sevigny attended the Yves Saint Laurent and Cinema Society hosted screening of 'Lawless' this week sporting one of the flower vine printed Versace Jeans couture dresses.

Despite originally being in love with Sevigny's style, over the past few years she come up with some questionable looks that feel less organic and naturally edgy as they used to and more on the contrived side, so this look is a welcomed move away from that. And to finish the look off, she gave the dress a touch edge by styling it with black leather Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony 'Nana' boots.

Stylist Elizabeth Stewart 'Dresses People For Who They Are,' Says Jessica Chastain

Jessica Chastain is amongst a class of relatively new actresses on the scene that never fail to disappoint when it comes to red carpet dressing. From appearing at the 'Live with Kelly' to promote her last movie wearing that Fall 2012 Carven outfit to absolutely nailing it in that Marios Schwab number at the Tony Awards, Chastain is by far one of my favourite red carpet goers and she has stylist Elizabeth Stewart to thank.

Yesterday Chastain fulfilled her duties as the new face of Yves Saint Laurent's latest fragrance by attending the screening of 'Lawless', which the brand held alonside the Cinema Society and on the red carpet, she couldn't have been more compliemntary of Stewart's work. 'I’ve worked with her for two years. My very first meeting with her, I really had a connection because she sees fashion as more than just using a dress to look pretty,' she told The Cut. 'I also love the idea that she dresses people for who they are as individuals. She doesn’t dress people like herself, or like each other. She also dresses Cate Blanchett, Freida Pinto, and Amanda Seyfried, and we all have very different styles.'

Hedi Slimane Responds To The Yves Saint Laurent Revamp Backlash

Hedi Slimane's plans to revamp Yves Saint Laurent has been the source of much controversy. While Karl Lagerfeld and Arizona Muse have supported the move, the announcement has, on the whole, been met with criticism. The designer has kept quiet about the controversy but recently decided to talk about the idea behind it in this month's Vanity Fair:

It is interesting to see how much reaction this retro branding has created ... Clearly, this period of the history of the house was not well-known, which I trust was a surprise for Pierre Bergé [Saint Laurent's long-term partner]. I went back to 1966 — just before the events of 1968 [when 11 million workers revolted against the conservative politics of then-President Charles de Gaulle — the biggest general strike in history], but the awakening of youth was in the air, and Yves Saint Laurent wanted to dissociate himself from the clientele of haute couture and embrace this new generation.

That rebellious spirit seems to be in line with Slimane's style and you can't deny that the decision was well-researched but the fact that people don't seem to remember this period is perhaps a sign?

What do you think?

Running Shoes Now Go The Extra Distance Thanks To Stella McCartney

A fashion sneaker's technical quotient is often only a fraction of its style factor. Balenciaga have tapped into the current penchant for them with their panelled leather hi-tops, which have gained a cult-like status and fellow luxury brands like Yves Saint Laurent, Lanvin and Christian Loutboutin have all followed suit. And it doesn't end there. Today, you'll be hard pressed to find a fashion week-goer not sporting Isabel Marant's much loved wedged sneakers. The only problem with all of these is that none of them are actually fit for purpose. Despite being on point sartorially, they're hardly the best things to wear if you want to break into a sweat. Even New Balance, who position themselves as providing classic running sneakers that go the extra sartorial distance, are most fashion than sport.

Against that backdrop, what Stella McCartney is doing with her Adidas collection is to really usher in a rebirth of the fashion sneaker. First up, her trainers are for women. Sounds simple, eh, but the reality is that women have been ignored by the big luxury brands. The thought process seems to be that women spend major dollars on their heels so the luxury fashion trainer is the male counterpart but as the success of McCarney's trainers show, the big brands are really missing a trick.

You see it on the train. Those women, like Melanie Griffith in 1998 film 'Working Girl', wearing sneakers for the daily commute. As you'll know only too well, their outfits look good but their trainers often leave a lot to be desired. Are we just leaving our trainers as an afterthought or is it like I said, that there just hasn't been many options?

More of us than ever are cycling into work, gyming on our lunch breaks or simply wearing trainers on the way to work as we try to pick up our walking pace or take the stairs rather than the escalator; and it's hardly surprising why. In the wake of the continuous messages about the national obesity crisis or if, like me, you're trying to get into those trousers before fashion week, the need for stylish but effective trainers has become a must.

Stella's trainers offer the best of both worlds. You get the cool, fashion side that comes naturally to her as a fashion designer but also the technology and expertise that comes with teaming up with Adidas. One style in particular comes in black mesh with a neon pink underlay and a black and white mesh style is the perfect balance between an everyday shoe and one for hard core exercise. Many of them come with durable rubber soles, CLIMACOOL technology for 360 degree cooling for the entire foot and outer soles with wider outlines for better stability to make sure that, contrary to the common saying, we can have it all.

Hedi Slimane Might Bring Couture Back At Yves Saint Laurent

As far as new creative directors go, all of the attention has been on Raf Simons especially after the unveiling of his first couture collection at Christian Dior was met with such critical acclaim. This week, though, it's Hedi Slimane's turn.

Today WWD wrote a piece about the designer's plans at Yves Saint Laurent after having seen a sneak preview of an interview with him in the August issue of Vogue Paris. In the piece Slimane reportedly reveals that he plans to bring couture back at some point in the future. 'Haute couture is a legitimate subject for Yves Saint Laurent and could resume one day,' but continued by saying that 'the priority today is to revamp and redeploy the luxury ready-to-wear.' In it's day YSL competed with the likes of Dior when it came to couture so the decision does make sense.

First Look: Jessica Chastian's Yves Saint Laurent Fragrance Ads

Back in June Jessica Chastain was announced as the face of Yves Saint Laurent's new fragrance, Manifesto, and yesterday the first image of the campaign was leaked online.

The above image is said to have been snapped at an internal presentation of the ads in Paris a few weeks ago and so far so good. The bright purple and dark red lips work beautifully against her much loved alabaster skin and red hair.

Are you impressed by what you see so far?

Pierre Bergé Supports Hedi Slimane's Changes At Yves Saint Laurent

News of Hedi Slimane's plan to drop the 'Yves' from Yves Saint Laurent didn't go down particularly well but it looks like the move has one big supporter. Last week Pierre Bergé spoke out in favour of the change telling Fashionista:

I am very, very happy today to have Hedi Slimane because he is a great fashion designer and he has a great talent, a huge talent. I like him, he is a friend and he worked for Saint Laurent a long time ago and he’s a member of the family, of the YSL family.

Just in case you're unfamiliar with him, Bergé was Yves Saint Lauren't business and romantic partner. Over the years he's been publicly critical of many of the house's former creative directors and has made a point of trying to ensure that the memory of the founder is maintained so his endorsement of the move came as quite the surprise. 'I'm very happy,' he told WWD. 'Anything that makes the house more Saint Laurent is welcome.'
