Zandra Rhodes, Giles Deacon And More Lend Their Design Skills To Childline

Image via Vogue UK/Giles Deacon's telephone box

This month British designers Julien Macdonald, Giles Deacon and Zandra Rhodes are joining forces for a good cause. All three have signed up to redesign the classic red telephone box to help mark the 25th anniversary of Childline. To save you from running around London trying to spot them, Harvey Nichols will display all three telephone boxes in the widow's of their Knightsbridge store.

They aren't the only ones lending a helping hand to the good cause. Corrie Nielson, Phillip Treacy, Lily Cole and architect Zaha Hadid have also contributed to the open-air art exhibition that is set to launch to mark the occasion. A selection of their design efforts will be auctioned off at the National Portrait Gallery on July 18 with all of the proceeds going to Childline.

Designers’ Favourite Dresses Revealed

Ever wondered what kind of dress the world’s top designers and fashion figures would choose if it came down to their ultimate favourite? Well now you can see for yourself. It all started in 2003 when the Grand Opening Exhibition of Zandra Rhodes’ Fashion and Textile Museum took place. The show involved 70 designers from around the world revealing why they were so attached to their favourite dress. Six years later and we can finally get our little fashionista hands on a lavishly illustrated book of the exhibition, published in aid of Save the Children. For every copy sold, Antique Collectors Club will donate 10 percent to Save the Children. So you can top up your fashion knowledge and be charity-conscious all in one purchase, sounds good to us.

Get your hit of designers, celebrities, models, photographers, stylists and editors. And with over 100 key fashion players featured –  including Manolo Blahnik, Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen, Jasper Conran, Cindy Crawford, Tom Ford, Dolce & Gabbana, John Galliano, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Betty Jackson, Calvin Klein, Heidi Klum, Christian Lacroix, Alexander McQueen, Kylie Minogue, Issey Miyake, Kate Moss, Mary Quant, Oscar de la Renta, Zandra Rhodes, Clements Ribeiro, Paul Smith, Gwen Stefani, Anna Sui, Valentino, Vivienne Westwood – you’ll be spoilt for choice.

EJF Launches Surprise Designer T-Shirt Pop-Up Shop

The Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) has recently announced the launch of its new pop-up shop in central London. The UK-based charity is known for its work in empowering individuals who "suffer most from environmental abuses, (such as forced child labour and environmental abuses in cotton production), to find peaceful ways of preventing them."

With this in mind, the charity once again has returned to their temporary home in Kingly Court, off Carnaby Street, but this time are stocking up-to-the-minute sample (pre-season) men's and women's T-shirts and 100 Eley Kishimoto designed eco-friendly shopper bags at £10 each, (which were also seen on the front row at LFW earlier in September), for a limited period only. The t-shirts feature art from a number of designers, including cream-of-the-crop of British designers such as Luella, Giles Deacon, Betty Jackson, Zandra Rhodes, Alice Temperley, Katherine Hamnett, Jenny Packham, Richard Nicoll and Ciel. T-shirts can be bought separately, but savvy shoppers can invest in two t-shirts and get a free EK shopper.

With the likes of Lily Cole, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Ashley Jensen and Nic Hoult, amongst over 50 others, having been spotted sporting the organic Continental cotton t-shirts, it is likely they'll be an instant hit. More to the point, as there is only a limited amount on stock available, the T-shirts will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis so you would be wise to head over to White Gold, 1st Floor Kingly Court, London, W1B as quickly as your 5-inch heels can get you there. And as Christmas is round the corner, it would seem that there is no better time to do your bit for charity, whilst snapping up some presents your friends and family will definitely not want to take back after the festive period.

A Look Back At The Importance Of MAC And Fashion Weeks Worldwide

There is no doubt that since MAC burst onto the makeup scene back in 1984, they have made a dramatically credible impact on the fashion industry. Not only do they provide high quality makeup to the very best artists for shows and shoots, their professional advice can be accessed through their stand alone stores, along with their expert products. As if offering us the best cosmetics, industry secrets and the artists to teach us how to emulate the latest beauty trends is not enough, MAC produce striking limited edition collections - with collaborators ranging from Zandra Rhodes, to Hello Kitty, to Dame Edna Everage - and even feed further back into the industry with their proactive involvement in both London and New York Fashion Weeks, to name a few. Could we ask much more of a makeup brand? We think not, as we take a look back at their involvement in the Spring Summer 2010 collections...

The Independent Talk Dress Code With Zandra Rhodes

I have soft spot for Zanda Rhodes. I'm not sure whether it's because of her over-the-top designs, not to mention her ever so real looking dog bag or the fact that Jill and I met when interviewing her a couple of years back.

The Independent caught up with the designer to talk style icons and her infamous make-up looks.

Zandra Rhodes' New Design Gig

Side story: Naomi and I met while interviewing Zandra Rhodes, and FYI, her purse dog's name is Paris.

On to the important bit: Marks & Spencer isn't exactly gliding through the recession, but a new collection from the legendary designer could give shoppers a reason to get excited. Expect caftans and summer dresses brightened up with Rhodes' fuschia and tangerine, and of course a sense of rebellion.

With design stints for everyone from Princess Diana to Freddie Mercury, we doubt the 68-year-old will disappoint when her new line comes out 7 May.

London Loves Lanvin

Alber Elbaz, Yasmin Le Bon

If Lanvin's Alber Elbaz has to endure a grueling all-protein diet for post-fashion show season, then at least he gets the fun of a party every once in awhile. When his new store opened on Mount Street, the likes of Zandra Rhodes, Stephen Jones and Anouck Lepere came out to entertain him for the evening.

As if the outside decoration wasn't entertaining enough. A pink cab with a leopard-print mannequin sprawled inside? That's the only time you'll see that in Mayfair.
