Washington's Mandarian Oriental Hotel hosted a special exhibition of Indonesian textiles collected by US President Barack Obama's mother, Anne Dunham, on Saturday. US and Indonesian dignitaries met in the capital to see a fashion show from designers like Priyo Oktaviano and Sebastian Gunawan, along with a concert and dance performance.
The event starts the last leg of Dunham's touring collection, 'A Lady Found a Culture in Its Cloth: Barack Obama's Mother and Indonesian Batiks', which Washington's Textile Museum will feature until Aug. 30. Dunham found batik prints so important because of the Indonesian tradition of women making them by hand, according to WWD.
