A top buyer for Harvey Nichols once said that she often hesitates when she hears about "green" or "eco-friendly" fashion lines. Nothing personal, of course, but she pointed out that there's still generally a long way to go if eco-conscious fashion is going to compete with couture.
But may we introduce Susan Woo? The New York-based designer - who trained with Louis Vuitton, Derek Lam and Chanel - does the best job we've seen for matching ideals with craftmanship. Woo launched her eponymous line for Fall '09 and earned rave reviews online from Style.com, Vanity Fair and Paper magazine.
Her pieces, which retail for $345 to $1,250, can be purchased from New York's Kaight and Los Angeles' H Lorenzo, starting this month. Expect organic wool, cotton and cashmere, plus the knowledge that every piece you buy has been sourced from ethical companies using fair-trade and energy-efficient practices.
Without further ado, Woo talks with us this week about what makes her dangerous and why she loves badasses.
