Followers of our twitter will know that Joan Smalls has everything to smile about. Last week Estée Lauder announced that the Puerto Rican model has signed on to be the new face of their cosmetics and skincare line and is will appear in a global campaign set to launch in May.
After years of working as a commercial model, Smalls has made a big splash in the world of high fashion over the past year. 2010 has seen her bag a Givenchy campaign, open for Yves Saint Laurent, close for Dior and Gaultier and bag an i-D cover.
“For me, Estée Lauder represents real beauty,” Smalls explained. “It speaks to every ethnicity and age group." Smalls wants to use her role at the brand to create a be a positive role model for women she told WWD. “I plan to bring [women] confidence, so they accept themselves the way they are,” said Smalls. “I am looking forward to creating beautiful images and empowering women.”
Smalls is the third new face to be signed up by the brand, joiningConstance Jablonski and Liu Wen.
Karlie Kloss has been one very busy girl this year. She has walked for some of the biggest names, including Valentino, McQueen, Gaultier, Givenchy and Armani Prive, and starred in ad campaigns for the likes of Chloe, Dolce & Gabbana and Marc Jacobs. All this from a young lady who turned 17 this year.
And just in case all her accomplishments as listed above and others (such as her love of ballet and cooking) weren't enough, Kloss has now been crowned as Vogue's favourite model of 2009. The "award" is thanks to the fashion bloggers du jour, at Fashin, who trawled through back copies of the magazines and tallied up just how many appearances Ms Kloss has made this year alone. She has graced the cover of every major Vogue magazine including Australian Vogue, Brazilian Vogue, British Vogue, Chinese Vogue, French Vogue, German Vogue, Italian Vogue, Japanese Vogue, Mexican Vogue, Russian Vogue and Spanish Vogue. Phew! What a list. We just can't imagine what life must be like for Karlie given that when we were 17, worrying about how we looked on the cover of a magazine was nothing more than a pipe dream. Congratulations lady!
She wowed us with her dancing at the Autumn/Winter 08 Gaultier show and now Coco Rocha is set to perfrom the Irish jig again. Today it was confirmed that the model, and her old Canadian dancing crew are set to dance at the Madison Avenue DKNY store during Fashion's Night Out.
Expect some suprise guest dancers too. Coco went to her blog to add more suspence saying that "you never know who we might have dancing with us".
