The Met Gala is known for delivering strong red carpet looks and Monday night's event was no different. It wasn't only about the clothes though because the beauty looks were equally as strong.
While there were a handful of questionable looks (sorry, Rachel Zoe and Christina Ricci), the majority were flawless. With both hair and make-up it was all about contrasts. Hair looks were either really severe and straight and generally tied back or came in Veronica Lake style waves and make-up was either really natural or dark and vampy.
Have a look through the gallery for my favourite looks.
Anticipation for this year's Met Gala was high and the event definitely didn't disappoint. While it's true, there were several disappointing looks from people like Coco Rocha and Jessica Chastain, the majority of the looks were really strong and it was really good to see people research and commit to this year's Schiaparelli theme.
The above is a round-up of my favourite looks. Regular readers will know that I was on the dubious side about Joseph Altuzarrateaming up with Lana Del Rey but I was pleasantly surprised by the results. Her dress, along with her new dark hair, looked beautiful and so did Carey Mulligan in her golden Prada creation. As an Olsen fan, I'm generally impressed by anything either twin turns up in and last night was no different. The black dress from The Row that Mary-Kate Olsen was classically simple but still powerful.
January Jones is one of the few actresses that is prepared to take a risk on the red carpet and this Mary Katrantzou dress is a case in point. Jones wore it this week to the 'La Revolution Bleue' screening at the Paris Theater in New York.
I loved the dress on the runway but it's not hard to see that it isn't the easiest piece to carry off at an event and as a result, it was met with a mixed response.
Despite being the face of Versace, January Jones decided not to opt for the brand as she walked the black carpet yesterday at the premiere of 'X-Men: First Class'. Instead she opted for this navy and black Preen dress teamed with a simply curled hair and green eyeshadow. Although we're big fans of Preen, the shape of the dress and unfortunately the shorter part at the front was unflattering on Jones.
The January Jones and Versace lovefest continues. Donatella has already made the actress the face of the brand and teamed up with her on a red carpet only collection but doesn't want to stop there. The brand has launched a collection of glasses named after the star. The collection, named January J, will feature two sunglasses and one optical style inspired by the 50s and 60s and all things 'Mad Men'.
After a promising start to the awards season with the Golden Globes, the SAG awards were disappointing in the wardrobe department. The majority of the looks failed to excite at all and January Jones, Lea Michele, Tina Fey and Winona Ryder were the best of a bad bunch.
