As we bid farewell to the end of the year and 2010 is fast approaching we thought it would only be fair to share with you some of the biggest fashion moments from 2009.
January:
Michelle Obama's inauguration day outfits, designed by Isabel Toledo (day dress suit) and Jason Wu (evening gown), caught the attention of the fashion world. Obama has since donned a number of fashion-forward outfits, which has propelled her onto a number of best-dressed lists and has helped launch the career of Jason Wu.
Had Michael Jackson made it to London for his final 'This Is It' tour, his Swarovski-studded tour costumes likely would have made almost as much fuss as his dancing. Costume designers Michael Bush and Dennis Tompkins were working on a set of stunning outfits that accentuated all his best moves, and they've revealed details of the pop star's would-be wardrobe to People.
Bush and Tompkins recreated the singer's iconic style for his whole 26-song set, but Jackson apparently wanted to add something extra. His red-leather 'Thriller' jacket had fibre-optic lights sewn in to create a light show timed to the beat. Jackson's trademark crystal glove and socks were also set to make a return, enabling even the back of the crowd to see him dance.
'I Just Can't Stop Loving You' would have required a 'regimented, military' look, while a jewelled belt for Jackson's 27 3/4-inch waist was also fit to perfection. For Jackson's planned finale, 'Billie Jean', designers crafted a suit with 7.5 pounds of Swarovski crystals and 60 lights so Jackson's one last spin would leave crowds with something to remember.
What features more than 300,000 crystals; comes in 53 shapes, 43 sizes and 27 colours and was made for one of the world's biggest tours? If you guessed Michael Jackson's Swarovski-embellished tour costumes and set, then you're right.
Jackson, clad in Crystallized Swarovski Elements from top to toe, will kick off his 'This Is It' tour at London's O2 arena on July 13. Says Nadja Swarovski, VP of international communication for the brand: "As the King of Pop, it is only natural for him to be crowned in crystal."
UPDATE: TMZ reports that Jackson, 50, died of cardiac arrest this afternoon. The Fash Pack express sincere condolences to Jackson's family and friends.
