When Lady Gaga released 'Just Dance', a wave of YouTube video tutorials appeared, demonstrating how to create the perfect Gaga lightning bolt. Then came 'Poker Face', and with that a number of video tutorials on how to back-combing yourself the best hair bow in town, and since those early beginnings we have seen the eccentric performer rack up some crazy costumes, and with it, some crazy fads.
Whilst you might think that the smoking cigarette sunglasses she sported in the 'Telephone' video would be her most dangerous get-up, or the insane lobster-claw shaped McQueen Armadillo heels from 'Bad Romance', you would be wrong. In the very same video as the Armadillo heels made an appearance, Gaga created a fad that experts have warned could cause blindness - her doe-eyed look from the infamous video has sparked a frenzy of fans wishing to put their sight at risk to recreate her wide-eyed look by ordering illegal contact lenses all the way from Asia.
This week, Barbara Walters revealed her most fascinating people of 2009, which, not surprisingly, included Lady Gaga. Lady W interviewed Gaga in a room with a light-up floor, and while the two crept to their plastic chairs, Gaga curiously seemed to be using her interviewer as a cane. Wearing a Chanel suit, Gaga actually took off her sunglasses. "You know i don't take my glasses off for many interviews," she said, "but I'll take them off for you."
The clip started with the prerequisite childhood photos, but wasting no time, Walters brought up Gaga's sexuality. When asked if she had had sex with women, Gaga stumbled over her words and then responded, "I’ve certainly had sexual relationships with women."
Walters also wondered what her father thought of all her writhing and trouser-ditching. "We didn't talk for months after the first time he saw me play," Gaga said. "He was afraid I was, like, mentally unstable."
But, asked Walters, what's the biggest misconception about Lady Gaga? "That I'm artificial and attention-seeking," the singer said.
Beyonce and Lady Gaga have each earned nine nominations for this year's MTV Video Music Awards, including a nod each for Video of the Year. Beyonce brought out her black leotards and single glove for 'Single Ladies', but it was a pleather and a face chain for Gaga's 'Poker Face'. Based on fashion, whose video would you choose?
And speaking of that, let's talk red-carpet style: Who do you think will look better pre-show this Sept. 13?
Back in 2007, Lady GaGa hadn't shown us her Poker Face, but she had given her two fashion cents to WWD: "When someone sees a girl in a two-piece out on the town, people think she's a ho. We think that's awesome. It's rock 'n' roll."

Well, well, what have we here, Lady? Looks like a curious...interpretation of a Hussein Chalayan dress from a few years back. As The Moment points out, one of the pants-avoiding singer's looks for her tour Fame Ball is strikingly similar to something the designer pulled off for spring '07. Would we be able to read her Poker Face if we asked her about the situation?
