All eyes may have been on the red carpet at Cannes over the weekend but a big event took place in Las Vegas too last night, as it played host to the 2012 Billboard Music Awards.
While the red carpet looks didn't quite match up to what we saw in Cannes, the looks were actually pretty good. Taylor Swift sported a red Elie Saab gown, Julianne Hough looked incredible in a silver Kaufman Franco creation and Miley Cyrus had everyone talking in this Jean Paul Gaultier double breasted mini dress.
As always the looks on the red carpet at last night's Grammys were a bit hit and miss. Rihanna looked sexy but sophisticated in a black Giorgio Armani gown, Gwyneth Paltrow looked great in a black dress from Stella McCartney and so did Taylor Swift who wore a gold Zuhair Murad couture gown. Unfortunately outfits from Katy Perry, Fergie and Jessie J were disappointing.
The big winner on the night was Adele who looked beautiful in a black sequined Giorgio Armani gown and quite rightly walked away with six awards.
American Vogue had a really strong year in 2011 with being experimental with their cover stars when it came to covers so when they confirmed that Taylor Swift would be there February cover star, I was disappointed. There's nothing wrong with the singer but it is safe to say that her fashion choices are exactly that - safe.
This week this image of the cover popped up on the Internet and I actually really like it. The 70s feeling really works for Taylor and is the perfect way to introduce all things spring/summer with its penchant for femininity.
Adele's British Vogue cover is one of my favourites from the magazine this year and now it looks like the singer has an American Vogue cover too. Over the past few days there have been conflicting reports about whether the March cover will go to her or whether Taylor Swift will get it instead but today, sources at the magazine confirmed that Swift will appear on the February issue while the March cover will go to Adele.
Anyone that watches 'The City' - remember the episode where Whitney's DVF look appears on Elle's Jessica Alba March cover - will know just how important the March cover is. It's responsible for introducing the S/S12 collections so comes in as the second most important issue after September so the fact that they chose Adele is a big deal. Don't get me wrong, I think she will make an amazing cover star, but she isn't quite the usual American Vogue cover girl. Hopefully they'll do something really interesting and that will beyond the obvious and easy tight head-shot take.
The 2011 Met Ball has finally arrived and the stars have come out with a venegance and on the red carpet Kanye West most notably appearing sporting the first glimpse of Tory Burch's first foray into the world of menswear.
Last night the Nokia Theatre in L.A. played host to the 2011 People's Choice. Jennifer Aniston presented Adam Sandler with the award for favourite comedy actor and Jackie Chan was awarded the title as favourite action star, which went to Johnny Depp last year. As expected, 'Twilight' was the big winner of the night receiving three awards and Kristen Stewart walked away with the big favourite actress gong.
Last night saw everyone from Rihanna to Katy Perry to Miley Cyrus come out to perform at the 2010 American Music Awards. Cyrus definitely gets the award for the most dramatic entrance, turning up in a beautiful Marchesa mini dress with a long train. True to form, Nicki Minaj went avant-garde in a Manish Arora dress, and Rihanna opted for a chic but subdued draped Elie Saab creation.
