Buying lingerie has never been one of my favourite past times. Like shopping for jeans, which is equally as traumatic, it often ends with me questioning where the waist of my former 18 year-old self has disappeared too, followed by even more shopping to soften the blow. That said, investing in good underwear is essential and something we just can't get around.
As the saying goes, a good bra and pair of knickers is the foundation of any good outfit and is just as important as what you're wearing on top. If that's true, let's just say that until now I've been working on shaky foundations. If my underwear draw could talk it would probably say something along the lines of 'give me more attention' rather than anything remotely similar to praise.
Thankfully I've got my act together and have Stella McCartney to thank. Recently the lovely team gave me a pair of her London knickers with a matching top and while they are very much everyday wear, they are definitely worth admiring. As the brand's S/S12 look book shows, the pieces are ultra feminine and subtly sexy and come in pretty pastels and pinks in flattering shapes.
If there's anyone that who knows about lingerie, it's Dita von Teese. After all, the burlesque dancer spends most of her time in the most beautiful underwear so news that she's launching her own line of lingerie makes sense.
Named Von Follies, the collection includes velvet, ribbon and grosgrain detauls on vintage-inspired bras, high waisted pants and corselettes and encompases a wide size range with cups ranging from an A to an E. The line will be released in Australia first in February and then worldwide shortly after.
Take the model out of the background of this first shot of Dita Von Teese, and you've got the perfect shot for a vintage pinup calendar, no? Miss Dita headed to Milan yesterday for the launch of her new lingerie line, theWonderbra by Dita Von Teese Party Edition.
Ladies, get excited: Calvin Klein Underwear's "9 Countries, 9 Men, 1 Winner" contest has kicked off, and there's going to be plenty of eye candy for months.
As a refresher, Calvin Klein is looking for its next great male underwear model. The company's current leading man, Jamie Dornan, who co-stars in the fall underwear and jeans ads with Eva Mendes, is helping judges around the world choose the next bod of greatness. The UK's first round of walk-in castings took place Saturday at London's House of Fraser, where Devon Parsons, head of the men's division at Select Model Management, helped judge the waiting hopefuls.
Photographs from the castings both in London and the other countries up for the title can be viewed on 9countries9men.com. As part of the selection process, all photo submissions will be judged by a panel including Dornan, Parsons and key members of the media and Calvin Klein staff. Judges will select one finalist from each participating country, with the finalists being announced in February 2010. From those finalists, one winner will be selected in April 2010. The winner will earn a one-year modelling contract with Select and a luxury trip for two to South Africa.
Interested in enterting the competition? The UK still has six more dates...
The Pussycat Dolls's lingerie, designed by Robin Antin, was out for display during a presentation by Japanese lingerie maker Peach John today. Do the singers have a nice brand of knickers?
At my family's house in America, it's hot. So hot, in fact, that when I ate lunch outside with a friend two days ago, I got a sunburn on one forearm from the elbow down. (Stupid elbow-length sleeves and inadequate table umbrellas.) When I say hot in that context, it's pretty much the exact opposite of Eva Mendes' new ads for Calvin Klein underwear and jeans. This, friends, is steamy.
The lingerie-clad actress stars in a Steven Meisel-shot campaign with a shirtless Jamie Dornan. Besides admiring the pictures on your computer screen, you can expect to see the ads in magazines like ELLE, Vanity Fair and Nylon come fall. David and Victoria Beckham, your share of the nearly-naked-ad market has just been put in danger.
"Designing lingerie has been my passion for the last 20 years," says Elle Macpherson. So naturally, the undies-designing supermodel was on hand Thursday to kick off the Fashion and Textile Museum's new exhibition, "Undercover: The Evolution of Underwear".
Max Drummey's ex-wife should be happy about snagging a six-figure sum as the next model for lingerie brand Ultimo. Company boss Michelle Mone set her sights on 20-year-old Peaches Geldof after spotting topless beach pictures of her in News of the World. And says The Peach? "I'd rather young girls were looking at a normal body like mine rather than an anorexic model."
Yesterday Victoria Beckham revealed her new Autumn/Winter 2009/10 ad campaign for Emporio Armani women's underwear, which took place on the main floor at Macy's Herald Square in New York. Victoria and Macy's chairman, Terry Lundgren posed for pictures in front of the 20-foot campaign.
