Zoe Saldana has kept a relatively low profile recently but last night she made a return to the red carpet last night in a major way at the Hollywood premiere of her new movie, 'The Words'.
The actress opted for this gold emboridered knee-length cocktail dress from Elie Saab's A/W12 collection to do so and finished the look off with a relaxed up-do and T-bar heels. Everything about the look works, something that isn't hard when you're wearing one of Saab's designs, and I'm sure this is only the start of what is set to be a strong series of red carpet looks from her as the promotional tour begins.
There was a time where accessories were all about IT bags. Thankfully, one the whole, that's changed. Today women seem more interested in splashing out on a bag that screams quality and craftsmanship rather than who it was designed by, as is apparent from the current penchant for bags from Celine, The Row and Victoria Beckham. Following suit is Alexander McQueen whose latest bag, the Heroine, is the perfect personification of that shift.
Aside from the flap coming over the handles, the bag is a classic and has the timeless quality that we all want right now, especially when being asked to splash out major dollars. The style, which has already been seen on the arm of Zoe Saldana, is compact but has an expandable feature to make sure the bag always fits whatever you need to carry. If you have your eyes set on it, be prepared to pay because the 'cheapest' style in oxblood suede comes in at £1,345 with prices going up to £22,295 for the black crocodile version.
To celebrate the launch, the brand has teamed up with still life photographer Dan Tibin Smith on their first ever accessory campaign.
Like his S/S12 collection, Prabal Gurung's A/W12 collection was made for the red carpet and yesterday another piece made it's red carpet debut on the back of Zoe Saldana.
The actress, who was noticeably absent at the Met Gala, returned wearing this long black gown with sheer panels that everyone went crazy for back in February and cleverly kept accessories simple with her hair pulled up away from her face.
There is no denying that Chloe Moretz has made a real splash on the red carpet this past year. Unlike many young stars, her stylist had managed to straddle the balance between dressing her in key pieces whilst also making sure that she looks age appropriate at the same time.
And the hard work is paying off as Moretz has been confirmed as the recipient of this year's Women in Film Max Mara Face of the Future Award in recognition of 'her oustanding achievements and her embodiment of style and grace.' At 15 years-old, Moretz is the youngest person to win the award as former winners include people like Katie Holmes and Zoe Saldana.
I was really worried about seeing the Prabal Gurung show yesterday. His S/S12 collection was such a hit that expectations for his fall offerings were really high but he took the challenge in his stride and wowed us with yet another stellar performance.
Gurung has long spoken about his love of contrasts and contradictions and that was visible in the collection. The show started off in dark representing hell. The first look featured a dark but romantic black cape teamed with perfectly low slung flared trousers. A strapless dress came tamed with over-the-elbow length leather gloves, jackets came in fur or along the hemlines on coats and dresses had the sheer panels that he showed in his SS12 collection that went down well with the likes of Rooney Mara and Zoe Saldana. Stemming from his interest in spirituality and light and dark, the first part of the show featured black hats created by Phillip Treacy which were half visor and half Archbishop hat. As the show progressed, we moved into heaven with those low slung flares coming in white teamed with gold belts and statement cuffs and feathered skirts skirts also made a welcomed appearance.
Aside from the black and white and gold, Gurung also interested blue tones on the eyes and on the knitwear inspired by the blue rose from Japan. The rose print appeared on structured tops and trouser combos to the delight of buyers who were quick to lap these prints up last season. The shapes were good too. Jackets came with volumous sleeves and rounded cocoon shaped shoulders and one coat had a greenish blue oil effect on the arms and came nipped in at the waist with a skater skirt style from the waist down.
The red carpet looks at the SAG Awards were really good and to some extent, a lot more exciting than what we saw at the Golden Globes. Natalie Portman, Lea Michele, Renee Bargh, Tilda Swinton and Emma Stone stole the show. Strong looks also came from Ashlee Simpson who made a surprise appearance on the red carpet, which suggests that she has a big comeback in the works and Sofia Vegara looked beautiful in a pink strapless gown.
Over the weekend Zoe Saldana attended the 2012 Golden Globe Awards celebration party thrown by Audi and wore this black embellished neckline halter neck dress by Jason Wu. On the whole, the looks at the event were not promising, especially since the Golden Globes is less than a week away, but Saldana's dress, teamed with the peep toe sandals and boxy silver clutch worked so well.
This isn't the first time Saldana has made a statement in Wu. The petal print S/S12 dress that she wore to the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic back in October went down really well with fashion critics and the weeklies, as did the S/S10 Wu dress that she wore the previous year to the Critics Choice Awards.
Zoe Saldana knows how to dress for the red carpet but I wasn't wowed by this look that she wore last night to attend a charity event in Beverley Hills. She was attending a charity event so a glitzy outfit would not have made sense, granted, but this Giambattista Valli look teamed with open toe Giuseppe Zanotti heels feels slightly mediocre.
It's been a busy week in Hollywood but that didn't stop everyone from Reese Witherspoon to Kate Hudson from attending the LACMA Art and Film Gala. This year the gala, co-chaired by Leonardo DiCaprio and presented by Gucci, honored Clint Eastwood and artist John Baladessari.
As you would expect, the majority of guests appeared wearing Gucci S/S12 and the best outfits of the night definitely go to Camilla Belle, Evan Rachel Wood and Zoe Saldana. All three actresses showed off the brand's 20s flapper dresses off beautifully.
Zoe Saldana wore this floor length halter neck dress from Chloé 2012 resort collection this weekend. The actress teamed the dress with a pair of Valentino wedges to attend The Foundation Polo Challenge in Santa Barbara. Although the look works, it doesn't compare to the red carpet looks she was churning out while promoting the last 'Star Trek' movie.
